Great new jiu jitsu gym in Avondale, Bham area! Amazing place to start your training as an absolute beginner as well as continue to build your skills from blue belt all the way up to black belt. It’s definitely the place to check out if jiu jitsu has ever caught your eye!

Came for an introductory class. DJ the co owner was the instructor for the session and was a great teacher. I have no jiu jitsu or martial arts experience, but was able to understand some of the basics through DJ’s intuitive explanations and just learn-by-doing since we quickly switched to some timed sparring. Environment seemed great for all ages and a good space to avoid injuries. P.s. was great mobility & cardio training too

If you're looking for a gym where everyone is laid back when they're hanging out, but where they go hard when they get on the mats, Ohm is the gym you're looking for. You can see even from the posters on the wall that these guys have fun with jiu jitsu and don't take themselves too seriously, and that's true of everyone in the gym. I never feel awkward — there's always someone who's going to say hi and ask you what's going on and help you out with whatever you need. But you see the discipline and seriousness come out when they start rolling. The instructors couldn't be more supportive, whether you're a black belt or you're just starting out and don't really know what jiu jitsu is. They're both black belts and are super informed about what's going on in jiu jitsu even beyond their gym, but they're also really laid back guys and some of the best teachers I've ever experienced, not just in jiu jitsu, but in any sport or workout. I like that you don't have to wear the traditional gi (most people don't), and that you don't even have to buy any of their branded rashguards or anything like that. You can wear your own stuff if you want to and they don't pressure you, even though their rashguards and spats are pretty cool and worth buying if you end up liking it. They have a free trial going all the time, they don't make you sign a contract, and their prices are some of the best in town, so really there's no reason not to try it.

This is a superbly well run and welcoming Jiu Jitsu gym located in Birmingham, Alabama. There is plenty of parking and the gym has showers and a drinking bottle refill station. The gym area, changing rooms and bathroom/shower facilities were spotlessly clean. The instruction is clearly delivered by knowledgeable instructors who provide both broad concept and specific details during lessons. There was also plenty of time allowed for open rolling and sparring in addition to the well structured and controlled teaching provided. I was a visitor looking for mat-time whilst on vacation and I am an older student. I was made to feel immediately and warmly welcomed. The club has a clearly established culture of hard but respectful training and I was impressed by the fact that everyone was willing to roll everyone, with polite declining of a round being encouraged and respected if required. The demographic mix of the club was notable in its variety. In my experience, older students and female students in particular don’t train at clubs that are poorly run, unsafe, disrespectful or have a bad attitude. The diverse range of age, gender and ability at Ohm is a testament to the environment as much as the instruction. I very much enjoyed and benefitted from training here as a visitor and if I lived in Birmingham or the surrounding area, this would be my regular club of choice - I can think of no higher recommendation.

Ohm is a cool gym. It’s in a great location, it’s clean, and well appointed. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and open to both new members and experienced grapplers. I’ve trained with both of the coaches for a long time. I can honestly say that that they care very much about the sport, the students, and love teaching. And they do a great job with it. Jiu Jitsu is for everyone. There’s no reason to wait. Come to a free trial class today and learn what it can do for you.
