About

Gracie Barra Ahwatukee offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and karate training for all ages and skill levels. The gym provides a family-centric community where both children and adults can develop confidence and skills. Coaches and professors are known for remembering each student's name and tailoring instruction to individual needs, whether for recreational practice or competitive aspirations. Visiting professors who compete at elite black belt levels regularly share their expertise, remaining accessible to beginners and lower-ranked students alike.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members consistently praise the supportive coaching staff, particularly noting Professor Luis and his wife for being down-to-earth and humble. Parents highlight how the gym has positively impacted their children's confidence, with coaches who know each child by name and understand individual needs. The welcoming atmosphere makes newcomers feel comfortable, and the optional competition policy allows students to progress at their own pace without pressure. One critical review expressed concerns about age-range consistency in the youngest children's class, advising parents to exercise caution and verify class structures.

Highly recommend this school for all ages, levels, and experience. My son has been doing Jiu-Jitsu for 2 and a half years and started when we was 3 years old and I’ve seen his progress and how positively it has impacted him and his confidence. We loved it so much that I also signed up my daughter as soon as she turned 3 and she has been training now for 4 months. The coaches and professors are great! They know each kid’s name (I don’t know how they do it) and understand each of their needs and how much to push them to get get better. We love Gracie Barra Ahwatukee!!

I enjoyed joining in some classes as I was in the area. I experienced easy to follow instruction and it was very fun, while they are welcoming to new students and encouraged growth and activity. I could see it being easy to want to continue this practice with these instructors if I would have not moved out of the area.

This review has been a long time coming. When we wanted to incorporate sports into our daughters life, we started with the usual soccer and softball teams. While she had fun, she did not care to continue. We decided to give the local BJJ gym a try. She struggled with her first day. The second day she left smiling and has been attending ever since. Not only did we find a sport our daughter loves but we found an amazing family-centric community. We have met life-long friends! The coaches are supportive and patient. For those who wish to further their skills the gym offers competitive classes as well as 1:1 training offered by their amazing coaches!

I've been coming here a while now and the honest truth is Professor Luis and his wife are some of the most down to earth and humble people you will ever meet. They have visiting professors who compete at the highest levels of black belt competition and not a one of them is ever too busy to help out a beginner or lower rank student. Competition is completely optional and while they love it if you do, you are not forced or guilt tripped into competing at any point. They make a point of saying the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey is different for everyone and as long as you are enjoying the trip that's all that matters. Wholeheartedly recommend this school for kids, teens and adults. The community is absolutely awesome!

The institution's adherence to its stated age-range policy for the 3-5 year old class appears to be inconsistent. Initial assurances regarding the age composition of the class were not upheld, as evidenced by the presence of older children. Subsequent inquiries regarding this discrepancy resulted in contradictory explanations from the school administration. Despite providing supporting video evidence, the school's responses shifted, ultimately leading to a misrepresentation of the class structure. Based on these experiences, it is recommended that parents exercise caution when considering this institution for their young children, as the environment may not align with the safety and developmental expectations. Documentation, including videos and direct messages, is available to substantiate these observations. Picture to provide proof she is not 5 .faces blurred out due to she us a minor
