I’m an almost 40 year old guy that decided to start jiujitsu and of all the places to start, I’m so glad I started at Jay’s. I could go on (and I will) about how important bjj has been for my own personal demons, but to keep it about Jay and his incredible gym he and his wife Lisa have created, I’ll list out some of my favorite things that any newbie might need to know: 1. Jay and Lisa have parental guidance energy. They’re not your mom and dad, but one thing is certain, they’re already proud of you and they’re there to help you every step of your journey. They’re friendly, supportive, kind, and passionate about their gym and the students. It’s an unavoidable experience. Jay laughs at himself and doesn’t take himself too seriously even though he could. All while being one of the top minds in modern jiujitsu. His recent addition of CLA/Ecological methods has caused my jiujitsu technique to improve greatly. Ask him about it. 2. Whether you’re a competitor or a hobbyist off the street, Jay takes your training seriously. There is a lot of common knowledge about martial arts that orbits around the phrase “you get what you give” and that’s true. But sometimes there’s a feeling of judgement when your coach doesn’t agree with what you “give.” Not here. Not at Jay’s. My wife had a baby, I’ve been sick, I’ve had life get in the way. Doesn’t matter. Jay picks up right where you left off and coaches you the same exact way as before. The comp team gets more intense training of course, but they go out and represent his gym so it tracks. But Jay has never not had time for me or my questions (and I’ve had a lot). He always makes time. He never treats me differently. I’ve always appreciated that. 3. The group of people that train here are awesome. You’re not going to vibe with everyone. Other people might have different interests. But I’ve rolled with a stoner and I’ve rolled with a police officer in the same day. Both beat me up. Respect is given in all cases. It’s truly a melting pot where everyone is trying to figure out their own internal struggles. It’s pure and awesome and a great feeling to be in the room. This is all because of a culture that Jay has established over many years of being in this sport. Jiujitsu is a filter for egos. If you can’t accept that you might not be the best in the room, you’re gonna have a bad time. Jay has created a safe space to find out what you’re made of. Just sign the waiver so we can choke you. 4. I don’t know if it’s his Filipino roots or what, but Jay makes everyone feel like family. That’s hard to do with hundreds of students. But I’ve sat through multiple promotions and watched him have something specific to say about every person he gives a belt to. Kind things. Encouraging things. The belt comes with a big smile and a hug. The wall of lined with his black belts ready to congratulate you. This isn’t flippant or second class. He doesn’t promote you if you don’t deserve it and when he does, he’s proud of you. Truly. Unreal feeling I’ve not found elsewhere. Not saying it doesn’t exist, just saying Jay has created something special. 5. Jay does his damndest to make his gym a safe space for everyone. It can be weird coming in to train with strangers and I can’t imagine all of the concerns one might have. But Jay purposes to make his gym clean, safe, welcoming, and intentional for all walks of life. Acceptance is a prerequisite for his gym and it shows. If you’re reading this wondering if you should, just do it. I’m proof that anyone can. I love it so much and now I’ve got lifelong friends that I met at Jay’s. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m so glad to be able to say that Jay Pages gave me my blue belt. One day maybe I’ll get my purple and beyond from him. If life allows, that’s what I want. Thank you for everything, Jay.

Super welcoming crew! Dropped in for a 6 am class while visiting town, and had a blast. Jay is so knowledgeable and approachable. He takes time for questions, and has a really easily digestible teaching style. Lots of eco games and really great rounds with this squad of killers. I hope to be back soon! Thank you for your hospitality.

I’ve been to a few gyms where people are just trying to boost their own ego, and this place squashes that. I’ve been going for about three months, and I haven’t had a problem with one person I especially like the Tuesday and Thursday afternoon classes with Ray. He knows what he’s talking about and he’s kind of giving you a pointers. Plus, there’s just a bunch of good guys in there that will help you learn as well Facilities, clean, and never had any issues there Would recommend Jay is also an amazing teacher, in fact, all of them are Good group to be in

This place has an amazing kids program. From day one, I felt completely comfortable letting my son train here without worrying about him getting hurt. The coaches clearly prioritize safety and keep a close eye on the kids at all times. What really stands out is how they balance fun with real instruction. The classes are engaging enough that my son actually wants to stay and train, but they’re also structured so he’s genuinely learning and improving his jiu-jitsu skills. The coaches are patient, professional, and great with kids. They know how to keep the class under control while still making it enjoyable. It’s obvious they care about both the kids’ development and their confidence. If you’re looking for a place where your child can learn jiu-jitsu in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment, this gym is absolutely worth it.

Jays is a great place to train. It has great mat space and an amazing kids program. I have been a member for 3 years. My wife does the women’s classes, my two boys do the kids class which are Monday-Friday 4-5pm and I do the adults classes Monday-Friday 5-6pm. They have classes on Saturdays also and Sundays is a very big openmat opened to all people. If you are a higher belt and want to compete Jays has an excellent competition class that will help refine your jiu jitsu.
