About

Kombative Concepts Martial Arts offers comprehensive mixed martial arts training with a focus on MMA and Muay Thai. As the first Erik Paulson affiliate school in Arizona, the gym teaches Paulson's championship-proven system that blends Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, and Jeet Kune Do. Coach Keith, the head instructor, brings extensive knowledge and expertise to every session, creating a curriculum that emphasizes legitimate self-defense techniques rather than purely sport-oriented martial arts. His background in scholastic wrestling further enhances the training experience for all members.

My husband and I recently attended the boxing workshop and had an excellent session. We learned a lot! Mr. K not only covers the basics for the newbies but tailors training for the more advanced so everyone feels appropriately challenged. His ability to individualize instruction makes it great for all ages and levels. The positive environment creates a wonderful place to learn and grow whether you are just starting or have been doing MMA for ages. Will be signing up our family for more!

I've been to several martial arts schools over the past decade, and KCMA is by far the best. From your first class, it's clear that Coach Keith's knowledge and expertise are exceptional. He's a true martial arts professional who genuinely cares about his students' growth in both combat skills and discipline. Coach Keith always makes himself available before and after classes to review the curriculum and help us fine-tune our form. If you're serious about leveling up your skills and abilities, this is the place to be.

I stepped into KCMA knowing absolutely nothing about martial arts or boxing. I immediately felt very welcomed and much less overwhelmed than some would imagine stepping into a room full of people who could kick your butt. I am now just over a year in training at KCMA and the improvement I have experienced is life changing. The difference between when I first walked in and today is like night and day, and almost completely unrecognizable. Keith right off the bat is someone who you can tell knows what he's talking about and that he is passionate about it. Over the past year Keith has taught me so much about martial arts, not just physically, but mentally, and has helped me in growing as a person. This is not just a Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, FMA, or Savate gym, but it is truly a MARTIAL ARTS gym. Keith has truly shown me the "art" in martial arts and I cannot wait to continue to grow while training here. I cannot thank this place enough for what it has done for me!

I have been training at KCMA for a few months now, having primarily looked for a gym that offers CSW. As an experienced martial artist who has trained at various academies in various arts/systems, I feel I can gauge the quality of instruction fairly well. I have to say that coach Keith is a very experienced martial artist, who, through his competence, personality, and open-mindedness has already made me better not only at grappling, but also at boxing and kickboxing. The atmosphere at KCMA is very open and welcoming, and even people completely new to martial arts are not overwhelmed or intimidated by what is being taught and how it is being taught. At the same time, experienced practitioners and competitors are being challenged and met at their level, so they can continue to progress. I’m looking forward to continue my martial arts journey at KCMA and would recommend this academy to anyone who is interested in building or advancing a martial arts skill set for themselves or their children.

Love this welcoming school for mixed martial arts training. It's a great workout, and techniques are legitimate self-defense, not the "sport" martial arts that will get you killed in a street fight. Kombative Concepts Martial Arts is the first Erik Paulson affiliate school in Arizona. Paulson is the first American to win the World Light Heavyweight Shooto (the original MMA) Championship. His MMA system that produces completion champions is a blend the best from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, and Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Keith's passion for Paulson's system and knowledge of scholastic wrestling makes him an excellent instructor. What makes him even more memorable is how great he is with the high school kids in the adult class. This is one of the best schools I've been to in 21 years of BJJ/MMA training. It's worth the ~90 minute commute.
