This is the best karate school in Phoenix. Sensei Hioki has been my Kyokushin teacher going on 15 years, and while I have taken breaks to try other martial arts, I have never met any other instructor who knows how to read his students the way he does. Every class is always challenging, and the powerful techniques he teaches have transformed my life as an individual. Osu!

I have been practicing at this Dojo for over 10 years and still have no intentions on going anywhere else. Before coming to this Dojo, I trained in Taekwondo for 20 years and honestly Sensei Hioki is the best martial arts instructor I have ever had. This is a complete martial art, with an excellent instructor who trained under the founder of the system. In fact, Sensei Hioki has trained along side the biggest names in Kyokushin Karate in the US. This kind of instruction is a true rarity.

Hioki Sensei is an OG Kyokushin Karate master who has first hand experience knowing what type of combinations and footwork is effective in a fight. Classes typically consist of kihon/technique warm ups and practice of basic punches and kicks, then rounded out by either pad work or partner drills and finally open but controlled sparring. Sensei really is a wealth of knowledge in Karate and while the traditionalist style of teaching martial arts is not as fashionable as it was pre-UFC days, I have gone to Muay Thai gyms and found that they use very similar fundamental techniques, just with slight deviations. The training I received here gave me a very strong foundation to work from, which is why I try to return from time to time. If you are a beginner at martial arts, drop in with an open mind. You WILL get something worth holding on to. If you have experience in martial arts, drop in still and meet a legend in a lost art. We're lucky to live in such a state with so many martial arts options, and Hioki sensei is one of the greats.

Its such a privilege to train under Sensei Hioki for all these years, especially knowing the long history of his life in Kyokushin living in the the Dojo in Japan as an Uchi Deshi with the Founder GrandMaster Sosai Mas Oyama in the 70's. Mas Oyama sending him directly to New York to help Shigueru Oyama spread and teach Kyokushin Karate to the United States from 1977 to 1987 then Shigueru Oyama sending him to the West coast Arizona to teach the traditional Kyokushin in the same dojo from 1987 to today 38 years later in the same location. Kind Hearted and tough at the same time. Helped me become a better father a better husband a better human. A True authentic Martial Arts instructor a Super Human! He changed my life! my Friend my Sensei. OSU!
