Kata has everything I want in a jiu jitsu academy - great instruction, very friendly people, and clean space. They teach all levels, and they teach them very well. It's high-level concepts shown in simple but comprehensive ways. It's the best, and I can't recommend it enough. Check them out.

KATA’s a fantastic place to learn and train BJJ. Anthony, Nate, and Scott maintain a safe and effective learning environment with attentive feedback. The daily lessons build upon one another to give you a solid foundation before expanding into larger units with steady, confident progress. Anthony emphasizes a cross-disciplinary approach incorporating the fundamentals of wrestling to improve your jiu-jitsu game. The coaches have cultivated a gym full of friendly folks and excellent training partners. The regulars here will go out of their way to offer advice and help you work through whatever techniques you happen to be focusing on. You’ll hardly ever need to worry about big egos getting in the way of a good roll. To top it all off, the gym location’s perfect, the music’s energizing without being distracting, and the mat’s kept in excellent, clean condition. It’s easy to walk or bike to if you live in the neighborhood, and there’s usually lots of parking if you drive. If you’re looking for a place to train in West LA, you can’t do much better than KATA.

The best of the best! We have tried a few different martial art schools for our kids and KATA by far has been the best. Not only is the gym Incredibly clean, but the team is absolutely amazing. Everyone is extremely professional and great with kids. They focus on building confidence and exhibiting respect and strength.

the coaches are kind yet firm. the kids have so much fun and learn a lot. they're very strict with the kids in the best way possible. my favorite thing is that at the end of class the coaches tell the kids to thank their parents for bringing them. the place is clean and minimalist.

I was recently able to drop in and train as an out of towner. I have been in a lot of Jiu Jitsu gyms through the years and I was blown away by the culture and instruction at this gym. Amazing instruction from Professor Caito who combines multiple grappling arts, through hands on experience, to provide detailed yet understandable instruction. Class focused on technique without sacrificing movement. Highly recommended for both beginners and advanced practitioners of Jiu Jitsu and martial arts in general.
