If you're looking for an amazing Jiu Jitsu gym, look no further! Ricardo is one of the best instructors on the planet—his teaching style is incredibly effective, breaking down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand and apply. The training partners here are equally exceptional—everyone is respectful, mindful of each other's experience levels and size, which creates a safe and welcoming environment for all. Highly recommend this gym to anyone wanting to improve their Jiu Jitsu skills!

This is an excellent BJJ gym. Let me list highlights: 1. Very nice facility. They have a top-of-the-line mat system installed, which makes a big difference in training comfort and injury avoidance. The facility is also large, with good parking availability, and big windows for light. 2. Good culture. They have Gracie lineage, so maintain the traditional elements, but also a warm / accepting group of practitioners. It’s not the kind of gym where people ego roll or try to hurt you. Lots of mutual training happens on the mat. 3. The real differentiator: I have been to 6 different martial arts gyms across LA, and this one has the best actual instruction, especially for beginner belts. The beginner classes are small, and Ricardo dedicates a lot of time to actual 1:1 and group instruction… philosophically, mechanically, and strategically. I have found it a much better place to learn than the typical ‘try-this-isolated-move-on-your-partner-without-much-context-type-process’ or the opposite, where it’s just more open-season rolling. Every drill begins with an intro of what we are practicing, where it’s likely to arise in a match, what the ultimate strategy it leads to is (ie what is your goal at a specific point… escape, reposition, choke, etc.), different technical considerations in effectuating the move, and then drill practice, before live practice. I find it very effective and instructional. If you are thinking of starting BJJ, this is the gym to do it. My only complaint is, I wish they had more frequent classes.

I’ve been training here for 4 months, and it has truly changed my life. I came in with zero martial arts experience, but from the very first class I was hooked. Ricardo and Henrique are phenomenal teachers — they not only explain techniques clearly and create a supportive learning environment, but they also emphasize real self-defense skills that make you feel safer and more confident in everyday life. The community here is just as incredible. My training partners are welcoming, encouraging, and always willing to help. It’s the perfect balance of learning, challenge, and fun. At 42, I never imagined I’d be starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but I’m so glad I did. If you’ve ever thought about trying it, I can’t recommend this academy enough. They offer two free trial classes, which is the perfect way to see for yourself. And to the women out there who might be curious but hesitant — please come try it! You’ll find a safe, respectful, and empowering place to train. I hope to see you on the mat!

As someone who has visited the Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy a couple of times while in town visiting my brother, I can confidently say it's one of the best in the area. The facilities are clean, well-equipped, and having a shower is a huge plus after a rigorous session. What truly sets this academy apart is the warm and welcoming atmosphere cultivated by both the professor and the students. The professor was incredibly friendly and accommodating, making me feel right at home despite not being a regular student. And speaking of students, they were equally friendly and supportive, embodying the true spirit of martial arts. One of the highlights during a visit was the opportunity to meet Kron Gracie and Nate Diaz. It's not every day you get to train in the same space with jiu jitsu legends like them. Overall, if you're in the area and looking for a place to train, I highly recommend the Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, you'll find a welcoming community and excellent training facilities here.
