I went here with a mate I was travelling with from Australia, we did the 12:00 No Gi class on a Wednesday. Everyone was super friendly and the coach was top class. The lesson was quality. I highly recommend training here if you live nearby, or visiting like I did if you’re in the area.

My child has been attending for more than six months and his growth as a jiu jitsu practitioner and as a person has been remarkable. The school - its culture and the instructors - instill a warm, encouraging, respectful, confident, and responsible character in each student, and between the students, that extends not only to the martial art practice but to other areas of life. I, too, have decided to join the fray and started on my own jiu jitsu journey with Revolution Culver City. Both me and my child will be here for a while. Hope to see you on the mats!

We have been here for more than 3 years, Jiu Jitsu helps not only self defense but also to build confidence. My son needed an outlet during Covid-19 and Jiu Jitsu helped him a lot. This dojo is more energetic and friendly than other dojo we tried. We like the atmosphere. Sensei Jeff constantly motivates the kids and give tips on life. Other coaches are also very kind and helpful too. I definitely recommend this place.

Revolution is amazing. They really help the children gain confidence not just in Jiu Jitsu but in other aspects of life. The coaches and Sensei are amazing. Its a very friendly and welcoming environment. My son has been attending since he was 5yrs old and he is almost 11yrs old and he loves it.

Honest Review of Our Trial Experience at Revolution Martial Arts & Jiu-Jitsu Let me start with some background: my 6-year-old son currently trains Jiu-Jitsu at one gym and Judo at another. He’s been doing both for almost a year now. He’s strong for his age and has very solid Judo throws. However, he’s still working on learning how to follow up with submissions once he lands in a dominant position like side control — which is why we were trying out other Jiu-Jitsu gyms to find a place that could help build on what he already knows. I was upfront about all of this with the head coach, Jeff (I believe that was his name). I explained that my son is still a solid white belt with one stripe in BJJ and a beginner in Judo, but he’s shown great progress — especially with takedowns. I even showed a few videos so he could understand where my son is at. He seemed to understand and welcomed us in. The class actually started off really well. The coaches were fun, energetic, and informative. I liked how they taught, and it just so happened they were going over submissions from side control — exactly what my son needs. As the class progressed, they noticed how skilled my son was and began pairing him with older, more experienced kids (white/gray belts), which I took as a compliment. My son is used to sparring with older, more advanced partners at both of his current gyms, so that didn’t concern me. Then came takedown rounds — and that’s where things shifted. My son used his Judo and threw two different training partners. Both times, the kids ended up crying. It didn’t seem like they were physically hurt, just more emotionally overwhelmed or caught off guard by the intensity. Again, my son was simply following the structure of the round (1-minute takedowns, hold until tap). After class, Coach Jeff approached us and was visibly upset. He said my son had “hurt two of his students” and directed his comments mainly toward my son in a serious, scolding tone. I apologized multiple times and explained that it wasn’t our intention — my son is just strong and enthusiastic. I even extended my hand to shake as a gesture of respect, but it was declined at first. Eventually, we did shake hands and parted ways, but I left feeling surprised and a bit disappointed by the tone of the conversation. He also mentioned they don’t teach their students how to break fall, which was confusing because the warm-up earlier in class included break-fall drills. And it was unexpected to be told that my son would have to “re-apply” if he wants to return — when this was just a trial class, and he’s still actively enrolled in his two current gyms. To be clear: I appreciated the class itself and the assistant coaches were fantastic. But the way things were handled afterward didn’t sit right with me. If your child already cross-trains in Judo, wrestling, or MMA — or is naturally more physical — this gym may not be the best fit. It didn’t feel like they were open to working with kids who come from other grappling disciplines.
