Professor Jordan has a great environment at Matua. Dropped in while traveling for work and hit their 6a zombie class. Great group of people, instruction was top notch. I love getting instruction on areas of my game I’m weak in and the class hit the nail on the head. Solid rounds afterwards as well. Clean gym I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m in town. Oss

Matua Jiu Jitsu in Rancho Cordova has been such a great place for my husband to start his BJJ journey. He had zero background in jiu jitsu and the black belt coaches have been incredibly helpful and patient. The small class sizes have been invaluable for beginners because everyone gets hands on instruction and real feedback. The atmosphere here is very welcoming and not intimidating for new people. It is a great group of people and the coaches are extremely knowledgeable. My husband has already learned so much in a short amount of time and comes home excited to train again. If you are new to Brazilian jiu jitsu or looking for a high quality BJJ gym in Rancho Cordova, this is a great place to start.

I recently visited Matua and found it to be welcoming with coaches who clearly know their craft and are committed to helping students at all levels. The class I attended was well-structured: a clear warm-up, technique instruction with step-by-step breakdowns, and then a rolling session with partners of varying skill levels. The vibe struck a nice balance between challenge and support people were pushing themselves but without heavy ego or intimidation. As a parent I was fascinated with their kids area. This gym is an absolute gem and truly has something for everyone in the family! Whether you’re into Gi or No-Gi, need an early-morning sweat session, evening classes, or even kids’ programs; they’ve got the schedule (and the vibes) covered. The academy is led by three phenomenal black belt instructors who are incredibly detailed, knowledgeable, and genuinely patient. They make learning both effective and enjoyable, no matter your level. Best part? Zero egos, zero tough-guy nonsense; just a welcoming, positive environment where everyone is focused on getting better and having a great time on the mats. Highly recommend!

My son has been attending this Academy for 3 months and he loves it. This program is great for younger kids. The instructors are patient and know exactly how to keep the classes structured, engaging, and positive. They take the time to work with each child at their level, which has helped my son build real confidence on and off the mat. Just as important, they reinforce respect, listening skills, and discipline in a way that kids understand. We are grateful to have found this place.
