I’ve trained at multiple gyms in San Diego, and I can say that Legacy BJJ is one of the most welcoming gyms in town. The gym has a strong sense of community, amazing training partners, and a very supportive environment. Mavi, Brandon, and Professor Edson are not only highly skilled, but true educators. They genuinely care about each student’s learning journey and are always willing to work one-on-one when needed. Mavi esp has an amazing ability to clearly break things down when something isn’t clicking. She also runs a women’s class every Friday that I highly recommend. Brandon leads a Sunday drilling session that is incredibly important for anyone who wants to improve their jiu jitsu, something not many gyms offer. And if you’re looking for an instructor who won’t let you cut corners, will be real with you, keep things professional, and still laugh with you along the way, then you should meet Professor Edson. Overall, Legacy BJJ is a great place to learn and train. It’s a no-drama environment where everyone is respectful and supportive. I highly recommend it, whether you’re experienced or new to jiu jitsu.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Legacy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Mavi and Brandon are truly exceptional instructors and role models who care deeply about their students—not just as athletes, but as people. Their passion for teaching shows in every class, and they take the time to make sure each student is learning, growing, and feeling supported. My daughter attends the kids classes. She was a little timid in the beginning, but her continuous attendance has really changed that. I attend Mavi Women's class every Friday and it's something I look forward to each week. Most of us are beginners and there's never any pressure to “win” or keep up with anyone else. It's just women lifting each other up - literally and figuratively. Lastly, the sense of community that Legacy has created is unmatched. The studio hosts many events that keep members (and their friends & family) engaged- like the OB Holiday Parade, the Ladies Vision Board Night, belt promotion parties etc. We feel incredibly grateful to be a part of the Legacy family!

I’m a complete beginner, and every instructor I’ve worked with has been amazing. Patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping me improve. They spend time working with you one-on-one to make sure you’re comfortable with the basics before pairing you with other students, which really boosts your confidence starting out. I couldn’t be happier with my experience so far and I’ll continue to rave about this gym to anyone interested in BJJ!
