This is hands down the best Muay Thai gym in San Diego. Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned fighter, Pacific Roots is perfect for all levels. The coaches are super knowledgeable and each have their own style, so you’re always picking up something new. Everyone here is welcoming, supportive, and genuinely loves training. You’ll learn every part of Muay Thai, from solid fundamentals to advanced fight techniques, in an environment that pushes you to grow while keeping it fun. I’ve been a member for almost 4 years and can’t imagine going anywhere else!

I pay by card and Venmo. (Card for the membership and Venmo for personal coaching sessions.) Pacific Roots is located in a plaza and offers a lot of plaza parking. I tried 4 other Muy Thai gyms before choosing Pacific Roots, and I'm so glad I did. The coaches here are amazing! They're so knowledgeable, welcoming, and make the classes fun. What made me choose them over others is the coaches actually take time to walk around during class to give guidance on techniques and they're always happy to address questions before, during, and after class. They also offer strength and conditioning classes, clinching, sparring, yoga, weights, and heavy bags. The athletes here range from brand new beginners to experienced fighters. It's a great mix of people and even the athletes help one another. I would definitely recommend Pacific Roots and will continue to go. If you're looking for a family-feel environment and want to improve your Muy Thai skills and/or get great workouts, you should check it out.

Pacific Roots Muay Thai is one of the best places to train Muay Thai in San Diego, especially if you're in the Sorrento Valley / La Jolla area. The level of coaching here is outstanding and you can tell the instruction is rooted in authentic Muay Thai from Thailand, with a strong focus on proper fundamentals, timing, technique, and attention to detail. After spending time training here, I’ve come to really appreciate the attention to detail in the coaching. Kru Shaun Shepard in particular is an exceptional coach. He has a great communication style and a rare ability to break down complex techniques and concepts into simple, easy-to-understand steps. He really helps you understand the “why” behind what you're doing, which makes learning and improving much faster. He also has a great eye for detail and gives feedback that immediately helps you improve. The gym is also extremely clean and very well maintained. The mats, pads, and equipment are regularly disinfected with Virex, and it’s clear the gym takes cleanliness and hygiene very seriously. The culture at Pacific Roots Muay Thai is exceptional. The gym is welcoming and friendly to everyone. Whether you're completely new to Muay Thai, bringing your kids to train, or you're an experienced fighter, the coaches and students go out of their way to help you learn, improve, and feel like part of the team. At the same time, the level of training is world‑class, with coaching and preparation that prepares serious competitors and athletes training at the highest levels of the sport. If you’ve been thinking about trying Muay Thai but aren’t sure where to start, Pacific Roots Muay Thai is an amazing place to begin.

If you’re looking for an amazing, welcoming Muay Thai community, Pacific Roots is your place! After coming back from a trip to Thailand, I wanted a more traditional-style gym that emphasized Muay Thai values and culture. I tried out Pacific Roots, and from the very first day, I’ve felt at home. I’ve grown so much as a fighter since joining; the coaching, classes, and people are all top tier. I’m forever grateful for my Pacific Roots family. Whether you’re just starting out or have been fighting for years, you have to check this gym out!

Pacific Roots Muay Thai is honestly such a great gym. The coaches and the community here are what make it special. Everyone is super knowledgeable, kind, and welcoming, which makes it an awesome place whether you’re just starting out, a more experienced fighter, or somewhere in the middle. Seeing how dedicated and passionate everyone is at this gym is really inspiring. Plus, they take hygiene and safety seriously, which I really appreciate. People make sure to wipe down the equipment with disinfectant, and the space is always clean. If you’re looking for a place to learn, train, and be around amazing people who love the sport, this is it
