I started my journey at 10th Planet BJJ and Muay Thai a few years ago, introduced by my husband who was already practicing Muay Thai there. I initially joined the FREE Friday BJJ class—yes, it’s genuinely free—and despite that, I have absolutely no complaints or regrets. If my schedule allowed, I’d definitely attend more classes. As someone who’s naturally shy and introverted, social situations have always been challenging for me. I’m not one to start conversations and usually only interact with people during sparring sessions. At first, the idea of returning to class felt overwhelming due to my limited social skills and the fact that I didn’t grow up here. However, the friendly and inclusive environment at 10th Planet made all the difference. I overcame my initial hesitations simply by showing up, even if it was just to say "Hi," "Hello," and "Bye. Coach Joanne and Coach Gino have significantly influenced my personal and professional growth. Coach Jo’s supportive teaching boosted my BJJ skills and confidence, while Coach Gino’s leadership fostered a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Their collaborative approach, along with the other coaches, creates a space where members feel valued, mistakes are learning opportunities, and progress is celebrated. Fun games also add to the engaging environment, perfect for beginners and introverts. Through 10th Planet, I’ve built meaningful friendships, grown in confidence, and even got a friend to join. It’s more than just a gym it’s a community that nurtures growth, respect, and personal development. While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I am incredibly grateful that I took the leap. I have no regrets, and for those who haven’t started their journey yet, I can only say you’re missing out on experiencing the warmth, camaraderie, and opportunities this wonderful community has to offer.

I trained at 10p Daly City for over a year before I moved out of state. When I first started jiu jitsu I wanted to find a place that was welcoming to beginners and women. All the instructors (Gino, Steven, and Jo) have always been so patient and go out of their way to help everyone at different levels to ensure they are understanding the technique and feel supported. The gym is very family friendly and welcoming. I would bring my daughter to sit during classes and she always had other kids her age to play with. But one of the main reasons why I chose to go to Daly City vs a closer gym to where I lived (at the time I was living in San Jose) was the community of women that instructor Joanne (Jo) has cultivated. I regularly attended the women’s Friday class and Jo goes out of her way to make all women feel included in her classes. From the very first time I went to the women’s class, I felt welcomed and was encouraged. Jo does well explaining techniques and goes at a good pace and helped me build my confidence with jiu jitsu. I truly miss the group of women there! Jo was always so kind and available even just to talk. Finding a jiu jitsu gym with a welcoming and supportive group of women is very hard, but Daly City is really a gem. I am thankful for all that the instructors have taught me and highly recommend this gym to everyone! Especially if you are a woman and not sure if jiu jitsu is for you, try Jo’s class on Fridays!

10th Planet Daly City is an exceptional gym to train at with several Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Yoga, Boxing, and Bodyweight conditioning class options available (kids, teens, adults). The most exciting aspect of this gym is the friendly and encouraging culture created by the coaches and students. I didn’t have a good sports track record earlier in life, and was skeptical of ever being good at a sport. But when I tried a BJJ class at 10PDC (started with the women’s class on Fridays), I had a lot of fun with and was able to learn techniques (I was very excited). I was inspired & encouraged by the students and teachers to continue learning! Since then, I’ve been training at this gym for two years and love going to class every day! 10PDC has also been a great community for me to be a part of especially since I moved away from my family in the east coast to start my professional career in the Bay Area. Definitely recommend trying any of the classes at this gym!!

10th planet Daly City has been nothing but an absolute change in my life. I took my first class in December ‘24 and I’m addicted. I attended a beginner’s class and felt SUPER nervous not knowing anyone but thankfully Coach Joanne literally took the opportunity to pull me aside and work with me at my pace. Not only did she make me fall in love with the sport, but we got to know eachother briefly. She also brings her SUPER CUTEEEEEEEE kitty named Penguin (I love cats) and she will sit there in her little carrier on the sidelines. I’ve attended women’s class on Fridays and it is always such a FUN environment. Having a group of strong women come together to learn new skills and sometimes have girl talk is the perfect combo lol. Coach Jo really makes sure that everyone feels super at ease with learning this complex sport and she does this effortlessly. She is an absolute key to 10th planet Daly City and nobody would have it any other way. All of the other coaches I’ve worked with: Gino(owner/head coach), Steven, Jon, Logan, Bryson, Devan, Ethan, Alejandro, Rich, and Dennis(I hope I included everyone’s names, there are just so many great coaches!!!) have all been VERY impactful in my jiu jitsu journey as well, where I literally come home to my dad and want to show him new moves I just learned LOL. They all have very thorough teaching styles and are SUPER encouraging even when sometimes I feel like a guppy in a shark tank lol. Some of the coaches also teach Muay Thai, and I’ve even tried a couple classes/sparring days lol, and even though Jiu Jitsu has my heart at the moment, they always welcome me with open arms. They are super knowledgeable and really encourage more women to join(I do too!!!!!!). Coming into 10pdc is always such a good time and I always enter and leave with a smile on my face(that sounds cringe but it’s true lol). If it weren’t for 10pdc coaches, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with Jiu Jitsu, built more confidence, make LOTS of new friends, and even think about possibly doing a Jiu Jitsu competition….and today, I can proudly say I’ve competed twice already and have received 2 medals!!!!!!!! Attached below is a picture of one of the many women’s classes I attended (of course I had to add one where Penguin was in it hehe). I hope anyone who reads this really takes into account how amazing 10pdc is and how it changed my life!!!!!!! (Cringe again but TRUEEEE)

10/10 would recommend for you and your whole family! My husband, kids, and I have been training here for 3 years, and it truly feels like our second home. This gym has it all Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, boxing, wrestling, yoga, capoeira, and more. I started my Jiu Jitsu journey in the women’s class (Friday’s at 5:30) with Coach Joanne, and from that very first class I was hooked. She is an outstanding coach very skilled, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated. She creates a very inclusive environment that allows women of all levels to feel comfortable and confident on the mats. All of the coaches are incredible! They are all genuinely committed to making sure everyone on the mats has a positive learning experience. We absolutely love 10pdc for life 🙌
