Bill Grossman’s School of Kenpo Karate has been incredibly important in my martial arts journey. I joined the school in early 2011 after moving to the SF Bay Area, and Grandmaster Bill and Pati Grossman have truly become like second family to me. Over the years, both have been wonderful teachers, mentors, and guides. I came to the school with prior martial arts experience and already held black belts in Shotokan and Tae Kwon Do, but Kenpo Karate immediately felt like the right fit for me. What I love most about this system is how practical it is. Everything has a real application, and those applications are taught alongside the material from the very beginning. Even the katas are taught not just as solo forms, but with a full understanding of how they work with an attacker. That emphasis on practical knowledge is something I have always deeply appreciated. During my first trial lesson in 2011, I also learned that Grandmaster Bill teaches Muso Shinden Ryu iaido. That was especially meaningful to me because iaido was actually my gateway into martial arts back in the summer of 2000. Between the practicality of Kenpo and the opportunity to continue training in iaido, I knew this was the right school for me. I had also competed frequently in tournaments when I was younger, so I was excited to find a school with strong tournament experience as well. While I lived in the Bay Area, I competed often with the school and always valued that part of the experience too. As of 2026, I am a third degree black belt under Grandmaster Bill Grossman. Even after moving to Austin, Texas, in 2016, I loved this style so much that I began teaching in 2017 with Grandmaster’s blessing. Before moving, I had already spent years helping assist with group classes and private lessons for students at the school. The foundation I received there shaped not only my own training, but also the way I teach today. What stands out most to me is how family-oriented Bill Grossman’s School of Kenpo Karate is. Grandmaster Bill and Pati genuinely care about their students, whether they are preschool-aged children or adults starting martial arts later in life. This is truly a school for all ages, and a place where students are supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow. I am deeply grateful for everything I have learned there and would wholeheartedly recommend this school to anyone looking for high-quality martial arts instruction in a welcoming and supportive environment.

I walked into the door 6 months ago at the age of 46 and feel like I have accomplished a lot. I can't wait to see what the next 6 months have in store for me. Thank you Professor and Master Professor!

We love Bill Grossman's School of Kenpo Karate. My son has had such a great experience. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and really know how to connect with kids while teaching discipline, respect, and confidence. The classes are structured but still fun, and we’ve seen a huge boost in both skills and self-confidence. There’s also such a beautiful community of families—especially a wonderful group of Latina moms who sing birthday songs, cheer the kids on, and genuinely enjoy spending time together while watching the classes. It creates such a warm, supportive environment. Highly recommend for any family looking for a positive martial arts program for their kids! 🥋
