Best place to learn authentic Taekwondo while building real discipline and character. The training is structured, technical, and focused on long-term growth not just belts. Students develop confidence, respect, resilience, and leadership skills that carry over into school and everyday life. Highly recommend for anyone who wants more than just an after-school activity.

If your looking for a place that just teaches you Taekwondo, this is not the studio for you or your child. CALSMA (Formally known as More than Medals) is a community. The studio is run by Master Jun and his lovely wife Sunshine who are very helpful and go above and beyond to support the parents when help is needed. Master Jun is very well versed and accomplished in Taekwondo and not only has he trained his students to better themselves but also helped them become champions in their divisions. My son has been going here since he was 4 years old and he has loved being apart of this community! Not only has confidence grown but his practice has also gotten a lot better since joining the Sparring Team that they recently implemented. The parents are amazing and it seriously feels like being part of another family here. As much as my son has gotten out of joining CALSMA, I would be lying if I said that I have not been learning a lot from them as well! I seriously recommend you to come in for a class and experience what I’m talking about yourself!

If you are looking for martial school where you child can learn how to stay strong in character, stay self-disciplined, and stay active in self-defense, then you are in the right place with Calsma

My daughter started Taekwondo with Master Jun when she was just 4 years old, and it has been an amazing experience ever since. She was a shy kid, but Master June made her feel so comfortable and welcomed right from the beginning. His approach with children is truly special — he knows how to build their confidence while making the learning process fun and engaging. In just 6 months, she went from a white belt to an orange belt, which was both impressive and encouraging. Taekwondo has quickly become her favorite martial art, and she looks forward to every class. I'm so grateful for the positive influence it's had on her. Highly recommend this class to any parent looking to build confidence, discipline, and joy in their kids through martial arts.

CALSMA has been an incredible experience for my child. When they first joined at 11 years old, they were shy and unsure of themselves in new environments. But under the guidance of Master Jun Quitain, operational direction of Sunshine Quitain, and the CALSMA instructors, they not only developed martial arts skills but also gained confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of belonging. The structured yet supportive training pushed them beyond their comfort zone in the best way. The instructors are patient and encouraging, balancing discipline with motivation. They recognized potential even when my child couldn’t see it, fostering an environment where they felt safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Over time, through training and the support of their peers, they became more self-assured—not just in their movements but in their everyday interactions. Beyond the training, CALSMA fosters a true sense of community. Students encourage and challenge one another, and experienced martial artists take on mentorship roles. Families are welcomed into the fold, creating an environment where everyone—students and parents alike—feels invested in each other’s growth. The school strengthens these connections through events like movie nights, bring-a-friend days, and parent-student training nights. CALSMA also supports families with resources like parent groups, including a father’s support group, providing a space to connect and share experiences. For any parent looking for a martial arts school that builds both skill and character while fostering a strong community, CALSMA is an outstanding choice.
