About

Lama's Kenpo Karate offers authentic martial arts training in San Francisco, specializing in both MMA and traditional Kenpo Karate. The gym is led by Professor Mauricio Lama, who has been teaching since the late 1970s and early 1980s and maintains an old school, non watered down approach to instruction. This commitment to traditional methods provides students with what reviewers describe as "the real Kenpo Karate," making it a destination for those seeking genuine martial arts education rather than modern adaptations.

Members consistently praise the family oriented atmosphere and welcoming environment that makes the gym accessible to all ages. Parents note that their children, including kindergartners, find the classes to be "the funnest" they have ever experienced, with one reviewer mentioning their daughter's "whole world had opened up" through training here. The gym caters to individuals, children, and families alike, with Professor Lama earning particular trust from parents who wouldn't trust anyone else to train their kids. This combination of authentic instruction and inclusive community creates a training experience that extends beyond physical technique to personal development.

The gym's location on Cortland Avenue in San Francisco serves both city residents and those willing to travel for quality instruction. With Professor Lama's return to teaching after a well deserved break, the gym continues its legacy of providing traditional Kenpo Karate alongside MMA training, offering a comprehensive martial arts experience that balances historical authenticity with practical application in a supportive, family friendly setting.

Welcome back, Moe Lama. Welcome back!!! The only reason why I say welcome back is a little break was taken off...very well deserved! We'll see you soon! If you want to learn the real Kenpo Karate and the old school not watered down stuff? I highly suggest that you go check out Lama Kenpo Karate on Cortland if you live in the city or not. If it's for yourself, for your kid/kids, or both? Professor Mauricio Lama has been in it since the late 70's early 80s and still teaches the old school way... he's back!!!! All jokes aside. I wouldn't trust anyone else to train my kid outside of Professor Mauricio Lama he's the real deal! Coming from a martial artist from the past and Kenpo Karate wasn't the style that I learned.πŸ™πŸΏπŸ‘ŠπŸΏ
