I have been training at Dark Horse for a little over 3 1/2 years and have loved every moment here. We have a very collaborative and supportive community that has become an incredibly valuable “third space” for me and many others who train here. If you’re on the fence about trying out BJJ, come check us out! Orientation classes are free and a great way to get a first look at BJJ with low pressure and 1:1 attention from an experienced student.

I started a women's self-defense class few weeks ago. Our coach Arianna encouraged me as a beginner, and from the second lesson I began to understand the technique and reproduce it in practice. Arianna explains and shows the exercises very well, which gives me joy and pleasure from the class. Thank you Dark Horse!

I decided to give Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a try after a 10 year hiatus from a different martial art and I could not have found a better place. I immediately liked the sport but more importantly Dark Horse’s professors, coaches and students create an atmosphere that is positive, fun and encouraging. Coach Arianna leads a great women’s class, and the instructors for the co-ed classes are fantastic. Muay Thai classes are first-rate as well. I have been training for ten months and am so glad I made the choice to give this gym a try, it has impacted my life. Whether you are new to BJJ and want to learn self defense and get in better shape or looking for a welcoming gym to continue your training, I strongly recommend Dark Horse.

Dark Horse has become such an incredible training community. Newbies and black belts alike seem to find their just right level of training and learn from the incredible instructors. The classes are rigorous, but are also tailored to someone just learning. Plus, being so close to downtown means a lot of folks in town visiting drop in and offer some fresh techniques. I always feel safe and respected as a woman when training here. The open mats are like a jolly jiujitsu party every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with people coming in from gyms all over! First Fridays take the party vibe up a notch as people from the street festival wander in to check out what’s going on. Third Friday exhibition style matches give everyone the taste of competition we crave. Can’t imagine a better gym!
