Hinomaru Karate School

My son has been attending Hinomaru for 4 years and we could not be happier! Sensei Guanchez teaches the kids and adults with strength and compassion, and he teaches them much more than Martial Arts. He sets the example of positive energy, discipline and respect and shows them how to apply into all aspects of their lives. They do tons of physical fitness and learn how to be healthy individuals. The kids form great friendships with the Sensei and with each other. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Thank you.

I have known this school for literally 14 years. First when my 4 and 5 year old niece and nephews attended and then went back years later when my daughter was 8. We are not attending anymore because we moved out of state, otherwise this would be the Martial Arts school she would be attending. Sensei Jose Luis Guanchez is a professional in his field and he not only teaches with knowledge and amazing technique, but he does it with love, respect and patience. He sees the best in all his students and strengthens their potentials. He also speaks to them about obedience and respect and responsibility. If my daughter was to attend a new school, for sure his technique would show and she would be great not only for the new things she would learn, but because of the amazing foundation received at Hinomaru under Sensei Guanchez. One thing that I can say as a parent is, don't worry, he is not out there to break your wallet! He is a teacher, a true teacher. He doesn't squeeze anyone's pockets nor has monthly test gimmicks. There are opportunities to advance at the appropriate time, but the charge for a test/new belt has never been overwhelming. He keeps things basic. Your son or daughter will be in a great school, with a great teacher, and with a fun loving, respectful group of students and parents! Try it out :-)

If you are looking for a great place to training Karate this is the place. The Sensei cares about what h is teaching. I would highly recommend it.

Ive been training in Hinomaru Karate School for over 13 years and its helped me build confidence, discipline, respect, leadership, and many other skills and life teachings. Not only is Jose Guanchez a gifted sensei, but he is an amazing example and role model.

Over the last 15 years, 2 of my children have and 1 is still growing up with this traditional dojo. Sensei Guanchez is an accomplished world champion and one of the most disciplined and humble people I’ve met. In the many years here, there has been consistent training, bringing out the best in each kid whatever their level. Each child earns their belt here through hard work, discipline, and teamwork. As a parent, it has been a great joy to see my oldest son who was once a terrified a little boy grow to be a teen champion and then into a man knowing how to handle himself in a time of need. Sensei does not “push” competition or run a competitive dojo. However, those that compete, compete and those that don’t still learn in each class. This is a place where old school is the BEST school. Real wood tatami, real authentic traditional karate. Kata, kumite, and sumo principles are taught with an emphasis on kumite along with agility and circuit training. This is a real Sensei that lives the lifestyle day in and day out. Sensei embraces a culturally diverse student base with respect for all. If you are looking for a “buy your belt” superficial place - go elsewhere. This is the real deal. If you are an adult, there is a class for you too. It’s never too late.
