I have been training and teaching JKD for many years. I even traveled the country for 6 years visiting 43 states and hundreds of schools. Out of all the JKD schools in the entire U.S., Chris Kent is by far the best and most knowledgeable JKD instructor I have ever met and trained with. His kindness, superb teaching ability and his long history behind Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do are second to none. Hats off to you my friend in your never-ending journey to keep the wonderful and amazing art and philosophy of JKD alive!

Highly recommend for anyone looking to begin training in martial arts. Chris is a phenomenal instructor and offers direction in not only the physical aspect of Jeet Kune Do but in Bruce Lee's philosophy and how it can be applied to various aspects of every day life. Great workout, great opportunity for personal development! :)

Growing up, I was always obsessed with Bruce Lee and martial arts. I contacted Linda Lee when I was around 10 yrs old. She told me that Sifu Chris Kent would be moving to Boise soon. One of the first martial arts books I ever bought was "Jeet Kune Do: The Textbook" by him and Sifu Tackett. So I was ecstatic when he opened his JKD school a mile from my house. I was at the gym every day. Chris Kent is an amazing teacher who focuses on the individual students rather than just teaching a "martial arts class". He gives you what you need and helps you discover things for yourself. We not only learned Bruce Lee's martial art, JKD, but he also offered Kali and Escrima classes (Filipino weapons styles). Sifu Kent is a big believer that martial arts is as much about becoming a better human being as it is about becoming a better fighter. As I mentioned, I was young when I joined. Much of who I am today is a result of what I learned from him. I'm now 31 yrs old and have gone on to share what I learned with others at my own martial arts gym in Austin, Tx.

It's rare these days to find authentic Jeet Kune Do - not just the name, but the method and mindset. In Boise, Idaho training with Sifu Chris Kent has been one of those rare opportunities. Chris is a direct student of Dan Inosanto (Bruce Lee's close friend and protégé), so what we practice is only a generation removed from the source. JKD is dynamic, it's not a rigid checklist of techniques, it's a way of moving and thinking. In class we train timing, range, and the art of the intercepting fist, but we also learn a way of approaching problems: simple, efficient, honest. That philosophy bleeds out of the school and into life, it sharpens your decisions, your timing, and your confidence. On top of JKD, Chris teaches Kali/Escrima and real knife work - practical, skillful, and grounded in real application. What stands out most is how Chris teaches: he supports people showing up as themselves, pushes you to improve, and helps you find your personal expression within the art. A teacher like that is rare. If you want to learn the real thing - technique, mindset, and honest combat methodology with flow reach out to Chris Kent. This is the way of the intercepting fist.

I've trained a few times at Chris Kent's gym in Boise. This last week I had the pleasure of attending his seminar when he came to Austin. I've had an excellent experience every time I've trained with him. I found Jeet Kune Do about two years ago when I was interested in learning self defense. Bruce Lee developed a practical martial art that could be personalized for anyone. That's what attracted me to it. Chris Kent keeps to the spirit of what Bruce Lee began while adding his own take on it. Here are the aspects I like most about his teaching: 1.) Focus on self defense -- I've been to several gyms that emphasize fighting as a sport. That's perfect for people who are interested in stepping into a ring. I'm interested in having a game plan if someone attacks me on the street. This is what Sifu Kent focuses on in every class. 2.) Simplicity -- whether it's a lead straight punch or a spinning back kick, Sifu Kent breaks it down in a way that just about anyone can understand and begin to implement. 3.) Philosophy -- Sifu Kent weaves Bruce Lee's philosophy throughout his training method. He incorporates it in his lessons and in his business and interactions with others. As someone who grew up watching films that are all about the deeper teachings of martial arts (Karate Kid anyone?) this authenticity speaks to me. I highly recommend Chris Kent's Jeet Kune Do to anyone who is interested in self defense and/or Bruce Lee's fighting method and philosophy.
