Downtown Boise YMCA
About
The Downtown Boise YMCA offers mixed martial arts training in a community-focused environment. The facility provides a range of equipment for free weights and allows the use of chalk, which is appreciated by serious lifters. Members note that the staff and instructors, particularly in swim fit classes, are supportive and offer varied class schedules to accommodate different fitness levels and times of day. The gym is highlighted as a welcoming place for older individuals or those returning to fitness, with aqua fitness classes being a popular option for low-impact exercise.
reviewsWhat Members Say
Members praise the supportive staff and instructors, especially in swim fit classes, and appreciate the variety of equipment and class schedules that cater to different fitness levels. However, they report significant issues with cleanliness, including equipment not being cleaned by trainers and a broken fan in the cardio room that creates an uncomfortable environment. Concerns also include aggressive behavior among members, such as profanity and intimidation, which some feel management has not adequately addressed. While some highlight the gym's welcoming atmosphere for older or out-of-shape individuals, others express frustration with unresponsive management and ongoing maintenance problems.

I only used the weight room during a business trip, so no comments on the rest of facilities. Lots of equipment for free weights. They allow chalk which is awesome for what I was doing

I just love the staff here and the instructors of the swim fit classes, there are so many classes to choose from and all different levels of difficulty and time of day to fit anyone's schedule. I would recommend it for the older or out of shape people tring to get back to it that can't do treadmill and harder exercise bikes , Aqua fitness was a good fit for me , thank you YMCA

There are many great things about the downtown YMCA. However, there have been recent incidents where YMCA members aggressively scream profanities at other members, specifically with regard to clothing representing organizations, countries or individuals they don't like. This is unacceptable and intimidating behavior, but current YMCA policies are muted in this regard. As Boise grows we are seeing more protest placards, stickers, and chalk graffiti by individuals who believe being loud and vulgar is perfectly acceptable. These incidents violate the YMCA's four core principles and damage the YMCA's sense of community.

Why don’t all of your personal trainers clean the equipment after usage with clients? Uphold them to standard gym decorum or remove the signage telling your general patrons to do so.

Please look at the pics I took. I could take hundreds if I wanted to. Filthy to say the least. Two of the managers disregard members requests for a clean and safe environment. They just say it will happen when it happens. After several complaints over several months by myself and other members, they have yet to fix the only fan that is meant to circulate the entire cardio room! it has been nonfunctional or just blows to the left side leaving the gym smelly and way too hot 🥵. Multiple times we have had to leave it was so bad.
