I'm on the road for work and decided to visit. It was a NOGI Tuesday. Everyone was really kind and welcoming. I enjoyed the class a lot. They do ecological rounds for skill work and it let me get exposure to some of the things I struggle with. This place has solid training, quality rolling partners, and really good people. If I'm ever back in town I'm definitely coming back.

I’ve spent some time on the mats at JG Academy visiting from another local gym to get extra training in. I’ve been in during open mats and comp team rounds. Being from another academy, I am still always welcomed in with open arms to cross train. Some of the women and myself spent time training preparing for nogi worlds together and it felt like I was apart of the team. The heart and passion that this place has is amazing. Coach Chris does an excellent job creating a safe, competitive atmosphere that allows everyone to grow and thrive.

I’ve been training at JG Academy in Meridian since February, and it has been the best training experience of my life. I’ve trained at gyms all over Boise and Idaho, and nothing compares to the quality here. Chris Hendricks, the owner, genuinely cares about every student. He shows up to every single competition to coach and support his athletes, which speaks volumes about his commitment. Whether your goal is to compete or you’re just a hobbyist looking to improve, this is the place to be. The atmosphere is welcoming, the instruction is top-notch, and the culture pushes you to be your best on and off the mats. If you’re looking for the best Jiu-Jitsu training in Idaho, JG Academy is hands down the #1 choice.

I first dropped by JG Academy a few years ago while on vacation, and it left such a lasting impression on me that I swore I’d come back given the chance — and I’m so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The energy was awesome, laid-back, and respectful — the kind of vibe that makes you excited to train. Before the scheduled adult class began, I had the chance to watch the kid’s class — and wow, was I impressed. Some of those kids had only been training for a short time, but their technique, movement and intensity looked as if they'd been on the mats a lot longer. Their composure, control, and engagement in the task was amazing to watch. It said a lot about the quality of the teaching: that even the youngest students are getting meaningful, well-structured instruction and are thriving. As for my own experience, the hospitality was outstanding. Everyone — from Chris the owner, to the instructors to the regular students — treated me like part of the community, not just a visitor. There was genuine interest in learning about my background, helping me feel comfortable rolling, and making sure I had everything I needed. On the technical side, their adoption of constraint-based instruction was a revelation. I’d trained in more traditional gyms for years — lots of drills, repetitions, fixed patterns — but here the coaches thoughtfully designed challenges and “games” that constrained certain grips, movement and/or positional options. It forced me to think, adapt, and explore solutions rather than mechanically execute. When I returned to my home gym, I could feel my timing, my awareness, and my ability to adapt mid-roll improve. What I appreciated most was how this wasn’t gimmicky — it was purposeful and led with clear intention. Chris knew when to step in, when to guide subtly, and when to let discovery move you forward in your learning and training. In short: Whether you are a competitor, hobbyist or looking for fitness, I think this is the spot. With kid’s classes that produce such capable young rockstars in a short time, and adult classes that challenge and nurture growth, this is absolutely a place I’d recommend to anyone serious about learning — and feeling a real sense of belonging. I can’t wait for my next visit back to the Boise area, which will be in a few weeks. See you guys soon!!

Ive trained jiu jitsu for a bit now, and recently started training full time at ATI. This isnt just teaching jiu jitsu based on the coaches favorite things. This is a different approach to finding and developing skills on an athlete by athlete basis. Figuring out what works for you, how you accomplish the objective or task with the tools you have available to you, while also doing everything against live real resistance, so you know its going to work outside the current class. The last month of training here, my jiu jitsu has increased dramatically, forcing me out of my comfort zone in an environment where there is supportive pressure, and room to experiment and fail, all in the name of learning and becoming better. The people, the space, the learning approach, all levels above other places ive trained.
