Wonderful place to practice Aikido. Both students and teachers are committed and conscientious. I go to regular seminars here and am always impressed by the friendliness and enthusiasm the whole club shows. And a truly beautiful facility, with ample and clean changing areas and restrooms. Great instruction, and always a great workout, too!

During COVID I wanted to find a martial art that was equalizing for women to study, I found in it Aikido. The dojo at Chicago Aikikai is beautiful and the students and sensai's are so welcoming and supportive. I couldn't believe how kind and patient they were with me as a beginner. Plus Aikido has been a very rewarding study. If you are interested in body movement, increasing body awareness, or studying non-violence in self-defense, Aikido is for you, and this is a wonderful dojo with which to begin.

I'm a petite woman with two left feet and zero martial arts background. The prospect of showing up at a Dojo was pretty intimidating. I came to a free Sunday introductory class with my husband and I've been training now for 6 months. The environment at Chicago Aikikai is so inclusive and encouraging. The Senseis (instructors) do an excellent job of explaining and demonstrating the movements. If you've been on the fence about learning a martial art, I would highly encourage you to check out Chicago Aikikai. You might even see a petite woman throwing a man twice her size.

I had been going to yoga for flexibility and mental benefits but I was looking for something more community based in Chicago. I had never tried a martial art before but I’m so glad I went to the free introductory class. It’s had a big mobility benefits and introduced me to a philosophy that I can apply throughout my life. It’s been 6 months so far and I see it as a sustainable practice for body and mind. The community is welcoming, the space is serene and full of interesting objects and calligraphy. The classes are inspiring and challenging while everyone helps each other. Chicago Aikikai is truly a special place and I recommend everyone to check it out!

I attended a seminar at Chicago Aikikai earlier this year. I was nervous. It was my first out of town seminar and I was alone. Every was so welcoming. The dojo is beautiful and rich with history. The training was serious fun! I cannot wait until I have a chance to return and train with all of the wonderful people and Aikidoka. If you live in the Chicago area or are just passing through, take the opportunity to train in this special place.
