I've had 2/3 kids training at Degerberg since 2021. The eight-year-old daughter has gained (much needed) self-confidence in addition to quality instruction in martial arts and strength & conditioning. Six-year-old son is right behind her. My four year old asks all the time when he can start. This academy is a Lincoln Square treasure. The instructors and staff are all top notch, and the programming is what you would expect from an institution that has lasted in the Square since the '80s. They have figured out how to teach kids martial arts. Really nice parent community and quickly but charming facility.

The Degerberg Academy in Lincoln Square is a truly special place. The staff and instructors welcome everyone — from the littlest ninjas to kickass, black-belt martial artists. The instructors are terrific with kids, teaching MMA with a terrific blend of discipline and positive reinforcement. My son has thrived here athletically and mentally. Everyone here knows him and cares about him — Degerberg has made us feel like part of the family! ❤️

I highly recommend this place. My son has had a really great experience here. We started out with the Ninja Turtles program when he was younger. It was excellent, however after a while we decided to look at other places because we don't live nearby. We eventually ended up coming back here because it is the best we have found--it is worth the commute. In addition to getting a great workout and learning martial arts skills, my son is learning discipline, focus, and other incredibly important skills like treating others with respect and being a good teammate. The instructors command respect, but also make the classes fun and really keep the kids engaged. Everyone who works here seems to really enjoy what they do. Just started my younger son too and trying to convince my daughter to join. Haven't tried the adult classes yet, but they look badass:)
