🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 My son Eric has been training here for a while, and he absolutely loves it. The instructors at Hyun’s Hapkido & Tae Kwon Do are incredibly patient, skilled, and truly dedicated to helping kids build confidence, discipline, and respect. I’ve seen a big improvement in Eric’s focus and attitude both in class and at home. The environment is safe, positive, and very motivating for young students. Highly recommended for any parent looking for a great martial arts school.

Grandmaster Hyun has probably saved my life with everything I've been learning from him. I'm a fat woman, so I was initially scared to start for fear my weight would hold me back, but GM Hyun and everyone else have been so welcoming and encouraging, and after 1.5 years of training so far, my mobility is better than when I was an athletic teenager. Because even as a teenager, I could never get up and down from the floor without using my hands, but now I can just pop up from the floor like a jack in the box! With Grandmaster Hyun, I am not only learning self-defense, but also, I'm learning about body mechanics which help me to fix misalignments in my bone structure, I'm learning about diet structure which helps me make better choices with my foods, and I'm learning to control my body's movements better than ever. My posture is better than it ever was. My upper body is stronger than it has been in years. All my clothes are now baggy. If I had not made the decision to join this school, my health would've continued to deteriorate and I would've never achieved the level of progress I've achieved with Grandmaster Hyun. He and his training is not for the weak, however, so if you join, expect discipline and hard work.

My first day there the main instructor twisted my arm in front of everyone. I felt like it was a slight hazing or bullying, and me being the only gay person in the room I felt uncomfortable and a little targeted intentionally. I never returned and today I finally paid off a year long contract I signed with them. If you are visibly lgbt I would not recommend this place...

[ILLEGAL DISCRIMIATION AND HATEFUL ARROGANT BEHAVIOR WARNING] I am a visible Muslim woman who wears a headscarf. 6/17/2025 around 12PM noon, I was at Hyun Hapkido on Western to do a trial lesson that the grandmaster (Hyun) agreed to do with me yesterday in a call. I had asked him that morning if I needed to wear something specific and he said only comfortable clothes are needed. Keep this in mind. He told me to take off my shoes, which I did. He then said socks, I said can I keep it on for religious purposes? He said no, I said ok and took them off. Then he was staring at my hijab and said do you have to keep that on for the exercise? I said yes, I thought it was an issue with it being loose and possibly dangerous so I said I can tuck it into my shirt. He said no, there is rules about this and no one covers their head because of their beliefs. ( Mind you it’s been two minutes since I walked in). He said yes there is freedom to religion in America, but he can’t allow this because that will mean he will have to make a religious exception for every person that comes in. I said this will not affect my performance, he repeated it again. He said he is Christian and met his wife in a church, but he is not doing his religion “outward” (practicing visibly), implying that I am enforcing my beliefs. I said multiple times what would the exception be for exactly, The uniform, hapkido rules perhaps? There weren’t rules but he just replied over and over again that he can’t make a religious exception. He said if I had told him about my religion he wouldn’t have offered the free class to me( which he does to anyone interested). He said: “first it was about socks, then tucking in your hijab. You probably can’t even wear the uniform” I said yes I can, other places allow this so why can’t you? He repeated the religious exception thing and that he is sorry but he can’t give me the class while smirking. he said oh you’re going to sweat, how are you going to take care of that while looking down at me smirking and chuckling. i said that i will worry about that you don’t have to worry about it. I said this is discriminatory and it is not affecting anything, eventually he said fine J will give you the class and gave me a background and told me to follow him. I said are you going to allow me to take classes later on, or will you have an issue with my hijab? he said in taekwondo they bow to the us flag, you (muslims) probably can’t do that. i said to a person, no, but to a flag it’s alright . he didn’t believe that. He said yes but clearly that is not his personal belief. He said well you will be doing exercises with other people, you probably can’t do that while smirking ( he was smirking the entire time). If I couldn’t do the exercise why would I be there?? He made many assumptions based off of my hijab from the beginning that would directly contradict my choice to be there. He was extremely obnoxious and hateful while acting as if he is uplifting American values and democracy - I couldn’t even understand him that well because of his foreign accent. It is sad to see someone be such a sell-out but most of all be rude to a potential customer. The negative reviews here talking about ill treatment and discrimination really do speak to who he is.
