I have fond memories of my time learning Judo in the mid 80's at the Oak Lawn Park District under Sensei DeVito. Bless his soul.... Judo is purely self defense and even years after I left my training I found that I could instinctually defend myself. Years after, when needed, I was surprised that I still knew without thought, how to use a bit of strategic leverage to easily subdue my opponent. Yet, probably the most important lesson I learned at such an early age was how to fall correctly which I know saved many potentially broken bones. Judo offered myself confidence, discipline, and I highly recommend this program to all and I wish I lived close enough for my own children to attend.

I first met Sensei Glenn at like 11 pm on a Friday night. We were both finishing setting up for two different grappling tournaments that just so happened to be booked for the same venue, on the same weekend. His event featured the art of Judo and mine was focused on BJJ. I’ve got to admit, I liked Glenn right out the jump. He’s a funny, intelligent, charismatic guy for sure, but what i picked up on immediately was his passion for Judo. This man lives and breathes Judo. His enthusiasm has an almost magnetic effect, at least it did on me. I told him that when I had a break in the action, I’d like to come over and check out his Judo tournament. And that’s what I did, I walked over to the other side of the building to catch some Judo action. I also wanted to see how good his students were. I mean, I wanted to see if his passion for practicing Judo lined up with his coaching abilities. As it turns out, Glenn was as good a coach as he was a competitor, maybe better even. His students won match after match, with ippon after ippon. And they were like, just so humble, taking the time to help opponents up off the mat, and politely bowing to them and the other coaches. It was really cool. I know that’s a long review, but I really wanted to take the time to tell that story, in the hopes that if you're a mom or dad on the fence about putting your child or children into martial arts, you can bring them to the right place. And you'd be hard pressed to find a better dojo than Oak lawn Judo. I live in Maryland, but I assure you, if I lived anywhere near Sensei Glenn, this is where I’d be taking my little boy and girl. Without question. Oh and thanks for the t-shirt guys! It took 6 months to arrive but hey, better late than never right!?
