Shinjinkai, The Japanese Martial Arts Society

I've been studying iaido at Shinjinkai under Brian Pettett Sensei for seven years now. It's a great dojo space and a great martial arts community, almost like a second family now. Highly recommended for any budo-ka!

Simply put... Best in class of best in class... I live in CT and have been studying AIkido since 1997. I had the honor or training with Meido Moore Sensei at a few of his seminars and when i when i visit Chigago. His technique, energy, spirit and knowlege are second to none. If you have the opportunity to traing here I'd highly suggest you do.

Great dojo with great instruction. I was greeted promptly and my first introduction into Iaido was everything I had hoped it would be. Very clean and well organized dojo.

Wonderful people. I visited from out of town and everyone made me feel welcome. This is the type of place to start your aikido journey

My review has been removed. I guess they don't respond well to criticism. Ive also found out what they are doing is illegal in Illinois regarding their contract which I list after the original review that has been removed. Beware- I signed my children up for a 1 year membership at Shinjinkai to take aikido lessons. My kids stayed for 5 months of that time because they did not like the classes. 18 months later I find that Shinjinkai was still taking money out of our checking account. I honored the year because that was what I signed them up for, but even though my children haven’t been there for a year, these people still think its ok to have taken $740 from my checking account. They told me to read the fine print. Beware- they actually have you sign up for a lifetime despite having “Discounted 1 year Membership” in bold print on the top of the page. On our seeking to resolve this politely, their reaction was rude and boorish. (815 ILCS 645/) Physical Fitness Services Act. (815 ILCS 645/1) (from Ch. 29, par. 51) Sec. 1. Short title. (a) "Physical fitness center" or "center" means any person or business entity offering physical fitness services to the public. (b) "Physical fitness services" or "services" includes instruction, training or assistance in physical culture, bodybuilding, exercising, weight reducing, figure development, judo, karate, self-defense training, or any similar activity; use of the facilities of a physical fitness center for any of the above activities; or membership in any group formed by a physical fitness center for any of the above purposes.
