Sensei Parkhill conducted a Judo seminar for our group (kids and adults) and was absolutely fantastic! He is very knowledgeable, and does a great job of communicating and teaching the material.

Amazing with children!! Sensi Parkhill does an amazing job with the children's class. He is so involved and his structure is great. Highly recommend! We were looking for our child to learn self defense and discipline. We are so thankful for everything he has teached our child and continues to teach.

If you ever wanted to know what Judo is than this is the place. Great instruction for adults and children alike. The ultimate goal in Judo is to develop oneself to the maximum extent possible, always striving for perfection, so that you can contribute something of value to the world.

I began doing Judo with the Des Moines Judo Academy in 2010 as an orange belt. I eventually earned my black belt in 2016. And even though an injury is preventing me from practicing Judo currently I cannot say enough positive things about the club. Under the tutelage of head instructor Bret Parkhill the club maintains a friendly, supportive yet very competitive atmosphere. A core concept of Judo is Jita Kyoei, which means “mutual benefit.” Since Judo is a martial art and sport that is both highly technical and potentially dangerous it is absolutely essential to have practice partners that you trust to help you safely develop your skills while you return the favor. Parkhill Sensei maintains a culture at DMJA that exemplifies this core value of Judo. It is a club that welcomes all individuals regardless of their skill levels and encourages maximum development. Give DMJA a try if you are wanting to get into shape and learn an effective martial art.
