Coach Matt Nussbaum from Boxing in the Park is an amazing Boxing Coach. I was a complete newcomer and I'm a somewhat awkward person, and Matt Nussbaum was extremely patient with me and was very helpful. You will work hard, but you will feel good and if you start to feel bad he will listen to you and adjust the intensity. His teaching style worked perfectly for someone like me who can sometimes take a little bit to get the hang of things. He also offers help with general fitness and is very good and knowledgeable about these things. I still use many of the apps and tips he informed me about. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Coach Matt Nussbaum and will be returning soon for future training.

I’ve been interested in boxing and learning boxing for years but always struggled to find a gym that wasn’t HIIT workouts on a heavy bag. That changed when I found Boxing in the Park two years ago. It’s hard to express how amazing my time there has been, because it’s literally been life changing for me! I walk differently, I actually enjoy running (didn’t think that was possible), and my mental health is better than it’s been in years. Coach Matt focuses on the techniques and strategies of the sweet science, as well as the physical fitness aspect. As a born coach he led and mentored me to develop my own skills and abilities, keeping the classes challenging but achievable. Switching from one class a week to two really accelerated my progress, as there are SO MANY skills to learn once a week just wasn’t enough for me. Matt has been incredibly encouraging and patient, finding workouts when I showed up with a tweaked back, busted knee, etc. He’s also a leader of a strong community in the boxing world of New Orleans, hosting and coordinating events to bring together like minded people together and developing a social support system of boxing and fitness enthusiasts. I got to meet so many great people, pros and amateurs alike, through these events. I still can’t believe I stumbled across Boxing in the Park on an evening walk and it’s one of the top three things I’ve done in the past twenty years. Do yourself a favor and sign up for a class, you won’t regret it!

Boxing in the park has truly been an amazing experience for me. Not only are you able to enjoy the beauty of the park, but you receive an amazing workout. One the I enjoy about the class is the personal attention and working out with a coach that is able to hone in on your skills and polish them, and help improve your weaknesses. I do not think there is a better personal coach then Matt, he is very friendly, and knowledgable. I also appreciate the fact that you are learning real boxing techniques, and strategy rather than just punching a back for the whole workout. Matt is able to gradually work with you and bring your body to its limits, ensuring you get a great workout. When I first started working with Matt I was not able to run a mile without stopping, after a short period I was running 3-5 miles at my own leisure. I have even brought friends from out of town to sessions who all have said nothing but wonderful things. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested.

Matt, the trainer who runs "Boxing in the Park," is the ideal boxing coach. Everyone from beginners to pros could learn from Matt. He tailors the boxing lessons/workouts (they're really both!) to each person, adapting to the unique needs and goals of his clients. As someone who gets bored easily with certain workouts, I can confidently say I enjoy every session with Matt. He pushes you in all the right ways without overdoing it. Do yourself a favor and sign up now!

Can't speak more highly of Matt as a trainer or as a person. Whatever your goals are, he works collaboratively to help you achieve them. He's incredibly knowledgeable and has worked with some of the best, and his passion for the sport is infectious. Beyond boxing however, Matt has had such a positive influence on my life. The improvements I've made physically and mentally since starting my boxing journey, as well as the other positive changes I've made in my life...I owe it all to this man right here. I wouldn't be the same without him, and he's made a lasting impact on my life and given me some insights on myself that I won't ever forget. I can't thank this man enough for being in my corner, both literally and figuratively. Very grateful to have found the best in NOLA!
