About

Costello Sports Complex offers mixed martial arts and wrestling training in Portland, Maine. The facility provides dedicated spaces for these disciplines, though some reviewers note that certain areas like the track and fitness rooms appear outdated and could benefit from more frequent maintenance. The gym requires waivers and membership paperwork, which some customers have found to be a confusing process that occasionally requires redoing if not properly entered into the system initially.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members describe the facility as generally nice with pleasant employees, but report significant operational issues including unexpected closures and poor communication about policy changes. Several reviewers mention being frustrated by sudden hours changes that weren't communicated during sign-up, leading to wasted trips when the gym was closed. Others note difficulties with the membership and waiver system, cleanliness concerns in some areas, and challenges obtaining refunds when issues arise. The recent introduction of paid parking requiring smartphone access has also been mentioned as an inconvenience.

Rink was good. Spectators were allowed and are required to wear masks. Food stands were not open.

Facilities are nice enough - the track and field house doesn't have enough seating, so heads up - consider bringing a chair. Relatively recently they started charging for parking - a smart phone is required.

The upstairs bathrooms aren't kept clean, and the track and fitness rooms look outdated and under swept. Much of the general public that do use this gym find it difficult to get a membership or a day pass properly. On top of this, the waiver system is messy, and it forces the customers to redo any paperwork that wasn't properly put into Costello's computer system the first time.

Payed 5 bucks, wasn’t asked my age. After playing one game to 21 was kicked out for being under 18 (I’m 17) did not get a refund. Then told me I had to leave the building got stuck in the November cold for an hour waiting for my older brother.

Paid 120+ for a 3 month membership, while signing up I was not informed that the hours would be changing the next day and they'd begin closing on Sundays (hours which have been very hard to work around with my job) Sat around outside the gym for 2 hours on the first Sunday before I found out they were no longer open, emailed and called the staff asking for a refund several times and was never responded to, so figured I'd at least try and get my money's worth. Have walked there on more than one occasion to find them closed for some obscure reason. Save your money and go to planet fitness, half the price and they're open 24 hours with a lot more options (tanning, massage and hydrotherapy beds) than this place. Or even 24 hour fitness behind hannaford for the same price but 24 hour access. Besides that, it's a nice facility and the employees are nice, I just could not in good faith recommend them to anyone for the reasons listed above.
