reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise the knowledgeable instructors who run fun, engaging classes and the respectful training partners who create a welcoming environment. Specific coaches like Coach Frank receive mentions for being attentive and helpful throughout sessions. Some reviewers express concerns about uneven instructional attention during busy evening no-gi classes, where certain students receive more personalized feedback than others. A few negative experiences mention instructors who were unfriendly or provided minimal guidance to newcomers, though these appear to be exceptions rather than the norm.

I dropped in here back in June when I was in town for a wedding. Training here was the highlight of my weekend. The staff is kind and courteous, instructors were knowledgeable and ran a very fun class, and my training partners were all respectful. Looking forward to visiting the school again the next time I’m in nearby and think it’s a great school to train at full time if you’re in the Baltimore area.

I dropped in for a no-gi class when traveling from Texas. I was welcomed with open arms by everyone! Coach Frank was very attentive and incredibly helpful throughout class. My training partners were very respectful and overall was an amazing experience. Will definitely be back if I’m ever back in Baltimore.

I’ve been training at Ground Control for about a year, and while there are many positives — like a clean facility, a solid training schedule, and a generally welcoming atmosphere — I’ve noticed a recurring issue that’s impacted my enjoyment and progress. One concern I’ve had, especially during the evening no-gi classes, is that instructors tend to focus their attention on the same select group of students, leaving others (including myself) with very little personalized feedback or guidance. While the coaches clearly know their stuff and demonstrate good techniques, the distribution of instruction feels uneven, particularly in the night no-gi sessions where class can get busy and attention is especially needed.

My friend and I came in for our first class and the instructor Vince didn’t even care to speak to us. No welcome no hello nothing. The entire class he never said one word to us or showed us how to do the drills. He never looked at us to even check if we were doing anything correctly or not. Never asked us if we were new or if we had questions. Extremely unfriendly. Do not recommend.
