I stopped by since I had to stay in Maryland for a week for work, and this gym was awesome. Everyone was so welcoming, and they took care of me. The instructor - Lee is so technical and he makes sure his students can learn properly. I will stop by again whenever I’m in town.

Shonen is a world class training center with a world class coach and competitor, Lee. We have brought him to teach in our gym in nyc in the past and having him over in May as well to share his knowledge. This is the place to be and the students are in great hands.

Shonen Jiu Jitsu is amazing. Professor Lee is the real deal. The vibe is awesome and the people are all super welcoming and chill. Lee runs an excellent jiu jitsu class and teaches details that blow my mind even after 11 years of doing jiu jitsu. I've trained at several places over the years but Shonen Jiu Jitsu tops them all out. Add all of this together with the fact that everyone is super approachable and focused on getting better and Shonen comes out as the pre-eminent school in the Baltimore area.

The instruction at Shonen is superb, and the environment is very welcoming to new students. Everyone is treated with respect and encouragement, and there is zero negative energy on the mats. The facility is also immaculately clean. Details matter, and the attention given to small details here is second to none. VERY articulate instruction for both kids and adults alike. And for the kids classes, the ratio of instructors to kids is amazing. LOTS of individual attention. Learning more about the Mendes brothers and the AOJ approach reveals why Lee is so good at what he does. He is a beast on the mats, yet has a super friendly demeanor. And he’s a fantastic instructor. My own kids have progressed by leaps and bounds in only a few months, and I’m excited to see how their story unfolds. Very happy to be part of the Shonen fam!
