Testimonial: Ii am a nearly 73 year old man. I started training at Oom Yung Doe when I was 62. I started for many reasons. As a child I was misdiagnosed and told that I wouldn't live past my 20th birthday. I was forbidden from activities. This left me with trauma and I rarely exerted myself for fear of exertion equals death. Even after being told that I would live way past my 20's, I carried these feelings around. I was unable to climb a rope, do a pushup or chin-up, or hit a baseball more than a few feet. I was told by a cousin that I was the worst athlete that he had ever seen and this was likely true. Somehow, I found dancing. This was the only athletic activity that I did. Over the years, the meniscus in my right knee wore away and I found my knee collapsing while on the dance floor. A painful occurrence. I knew that this would cut short my dancing, an activity that I truly loved. I also have A.D.D. and severe O.C.D. and had been told that some physical activity would help alleviate the symptoms. So, at the age of 62, I decided that It was time to ditch all these feelings of being weak, deal with my brain chemistry imbalances and fix my knee in the process. I can honestly say that training with Oom Yung Doe has addressed all these problems and much more. It was one of the best decisions that I had ever made in my life. I started out looking for Tai Chi, which OYD offers. However, the first time that I tried a Bagwa walk, I noticed something amazing. The circular walk allowed me to focus all my attention on an imaginary opponent. My A.D.D. seemed nonexistant for the duration of the walk as all my attention was focused on my body, my movement and the center of the circle. I also learned the Pal Gae exercise. After three months of practicing this, my knee never collapsed again and still hasn't. Using so much energy to accomplish what I had never believed that I could, quieted my mind. My wife calls OYD "The martial arts that makes MItch sane". After a year and a half of training, the therapist whom I saw for my A.D.D. and O.C.D. actually kicked me out saying that I was now able to control my thoughts much more and no longer needed him. How often does that happen? I ran into a friend whom I hadn't seen for a couple of years since I had started training. He looked at me and asked "What have you done to yourself?" I mentioned that I had lost some weight. He replied that, no, that wasn't it. He told me that I was carrying myself differently and projected a totally new and positive attitude. Those feelings of weakness were gone. I find myself now with new feelings of physical and mental strength. I am stronger and more flexible now that I have been in decades. I find myself to be a slow learner but the instructors at OYD have been wonderful. They never become impatient with me if I am behind the others. Instead they take me aside and go over the movements at my own speed until I absorb them. They have help me turn my life around. No amount of words can express the respect that I have for the instructors or the happiness that I have found in the changes in my focus, abilities and personal relationships. For your own sake, do not let your doubts or fears dissuade you from training at Oom Yung Doe. This is a game changer! Assistant Instructor Mitch

Not your average Martial Arts school. Oom Yung Doe is so much more! 8 martial arts taught as one gives your body, heart and mind different ways of growing and developing. The instructors are kind, knowledgeable and truly, the focus is on you and your unique needs, not making you fit into a rigid system of training. I earned my first degree black belt here at 33 years old, then left the school and shopped around for something better. I never found it! At 59 years old, after 16 years of chronic Lyme, I started my training again. I am gaining strength, mobility and endurance every day and working towards my second first degree black belt. I plan to continue to train and have a totally different experience of aging than my peers. You are never too old or too infirm to get started. I promise it will change you life!

I joined initially to get my body conditioned for stunts, but wasn't prepared for the wave of holistic benefits that come with this training. The instructors are all incredibly passionate, inspiringly talented, and fantastic mentors. Talk about supreme positive energy and powerful mindfulness! I think everyone should have this form of training in their life, it's the best gift you can give yourself. The offerings are also very customizable to your requirements, and the instructors know exactly what is needed for your body. For those who believe there is power in ancient art forms, this is a great school that translates it for the modern world. And for those who don't, give it a chance and you will!
