I highly recommend Viver MMA/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Studio in West Roxbury! I spent this past summer as a student at Viver in their kickboxing classes and can tell you that Viver is truly a special place. Finding a martial arts studio that is genuinely welcoming to all levels, from absolute beginners to seasoned fighters, and has a skilled enough instructor who can teach all levels in the same session, can be very difficult. However, Viver is that place that is genuinely welcoming and Coach Marcelo is the talented instructor who can teach all levels in the same class. From my very first day at Viver, I felt a positive, non-judgmental energy that immediately put me at ease as a beginner kickboxer. The supportive environment at Viver is truly what sets it apart. Being a family-owned studio really shines through in its atmosphere. Coach Marcelo is incredible; he is patient, knowledgeable, focuses on proper technique and safety, and pushes you to do your best. More importantly, the community and culture that Coach and his family have built at Viver is phenomenal. Everyone encourages each other, celebrates small victories, and helps push one another in a kind and respectful way. You are never made to feel awkward for asking a basic question or needing extra help. In fact, the other members, some of whom have been training for years, were eager to help me improve my technique and conditioning. In a mostly male-dominated sport, I can confidently say I felt completely comfortable and supported at Viver. The culture is one of mutual respect; Coach has no tolerance for anything less. It’s an incredibly empowering space where I can focus entirely on my training without any other concerns. If you are looking for a place to start or continue kickboxing/MMA/jiu-jitsu, especially if you are someone who has felt intimidated at other gyms, go to Viver! You will not only get into great physical shape and learn self-defense skills, but you will find a community that will keep you wanting to come back! Beginner kickboxer – Age 54

This is a great gym. Marcelo is a great teacher and works with you to help you understand the technique. This gym is always clean, family friendly, and welcoming. Before starting at this gym I had a hard time feeling welcomed at other gyms. That was not the case here. The moment I walked in I was treated like family. My kids have recently started classes and are always excited to go to class. I’d recommend this gym to anyone.

Viver MMA is an amazing place to train. It is a large, open gym with lots of natural light and is very clean. It is for all levels from BJJ to kickboxing, MMA and kids classes. Coach Marcelo instills a community first approach, where training partners look out for each other and the higher belts are constantly helping the lower belts. There are hard roles, but they are done with care and with the goal of improving your position and getting better. You can feel that everyone at the gym is genuinely trying to help each other progress in their own journeys. I highly recommend Viver MMA and I only wish I started sooner.

• I have been training at Viver MMA and Jiu-Jitsu in West Roxbury, Boston, for almost two years, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best martial arts academies I’ve experienced. From the moment I stepped into the 3000 sq ft facility, I was struck by the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that sets this gym apart. • The quality of teaching at Viver MMA is truly exceptional. The instructors, led by head coach Marcelo de Oliveira, bring a wealth of expertise and a clear passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Each class, whether it’s BJJ Fundamentals or the open-mat BJJ Creatives, is structured with precision, ensuring that both beginners and seasoned practitioners can grow. The instructors break down complex techniques into manageable steps, making it easy for students to grasp the fundamentals while also challenging advanced students to refine their skills. Their ability to cater to all skill levels while maintaining a high standard of instruction is remarkable. • What sets Viver MMA apart is the elevated Jiu-Jitsu methodology and pedagogy employed by the instructors. Their teaching approach is rooted in a deep understanding of BJJ principles, emphasizing leverage, technique, and strategy. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, with a clear progression that builds confidence and competence. Whether it’s learning the basics in the Fundamentals class or experimenting with new techniques during the no-gi open mat, the instructors foster an environment of continuous learning. They encourage questions, provide personalized feedback, and create opportunities for students to explore their own BJJ style, which I found incredibly empowering. • The friendliness of the instructors and gym members is the heart of Viver MMA. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth by both the staff and fellow students. The coaches are approachable, patient, and deeply invested in each student’s progress, creating a supportive space where everyone feels valued. The gym members, ranging from beginners to experienced martial artists, embody a tight-knit community that is both encouraging and inclusive. As a newcomer, I was particularly touched by how members went out of their way to make me feel at home, offering tips during sparring and celebrating small victories together. • Beyond the mats, Viver MMA’s focus on building confidence and community shines through. The facility itself is top-notch, with ample mat space, heavy bags, and cage walls that create an ideal training environment. Whether you’re there for BJJ, kickboxing, or strength and conditioning, the positive energy and camaraderie make every session enjoyable. • In short, Viver MMA and Jiu-Jitsu is a gem in Boston’s martial arts scene. With high-quality teaching, a sophisticated approach to Jiu-Jitsu, and a warm, welcoming community, it’s the perfect place for anyone looking to start or advance their martial arts journey. I highly recommend giving it a try—you won’t be disappointed.
