My review on ClassPass (where my friend and I signed up for Beginner Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu) would not save so Google it is. I took this class about a week and a half ago: My friend and I had a great time in this class! There was the main instructor and a woman, both of whom were very friendly and helpful. The warm ups had us sweating, and the practice drills/moves were fun and challenging. I would recommend coming along with a friend, as this is a mixed level class, and you had to pair up during the drills. I believe my friend and I were the only beginners. Though, if you do go alone, the others were friendly so it shouldn’t be a problem. Keep in mind that the class is very hands on. You will put someone in an arm bar, and you yourself will be put in an arm bar, among other things. It’s done slowly though so no one gets hurt! During the drills where we practiced different moves, the instructor would come by to check how we’re doing and give us step by step instructions if we were still struggling. It felt very rewarding to finally get it right, and everyone was patient!

Let's start with the good. Great location. I lived a mile from the gym, so Rudy bears was prime location. The wrestling class was awesome. Always had tons of great athletes and the wrestling coach taught chain wrestling which not a lot of gyms do. It was amazing and the only reason im giving 2 stars and not 1. I also loved that we did long runs in the morning before class. The bad: The instruction was mediocre. I've coached thousands of high level athletes as well as owning my own coaching business for the past decade. For example, in striking, we did the same 10 combinations every day. Rarely did we get to practice elbows or knees, and we never were taught level changes, proper punching mechanics, distance management, foot work, cutting angles or any of that. Same 10 combinations and then sparring. After training at a high level striking gym, I realize how lackluster the striking is here that was taught. The grappling outside wrestling was awful. We practiced the same 3 or 4 sweeps from bottom for 6 months straight. When I brought it up to the head coach, we worked on submissions for 1 week and went right back to guard pulls and sweeps. Nogi was no different. You will not be coached unless you ask. The coaches (minus the BJJ coach) would.never coach you unless you walk up and ask specific questions. As a coach, it is our job to walk around with a coaches eye and continuously engage and coach. Not sit by and wait to be asked. You are not allowed to cross train. Not being able to cross train is one of the biggest red flags in any gym. When I asked, I was told No. Every high level MMA athlete or any sport cross trains between facilities and gyms. It's pointless to rely on only one or 2 coaches. The belt promotions. Their are blue and purple belts at this gym who still dont know what half guard is or deep half or how to properly do a double leg takedown. People get promoted way to early as a way to say they have more upper belts. The biggest kicker is, when I left this gym, a handful of the fighters privately messaged me on Facebook to say the head coaches are talking behind my back constantly and they proceeded to call me names as well and cuss me out in order to back the coaches who were doing so. In essence, the gym is a cult like minded gym and I would really caution you. For BJJ and competition jiu jitsu as well as fitness and training with world champions, I would go train at body fit as they have a massive weight room, turf, strong man training, fitness classes, kickboxing, chiropractic care as well as massage therapy. For MMA or true fighting, go to ignite, apex, marathon or crown athletics.
