About

SBG Missoula offers a comprehensive martial arts experience under one roof, featuring Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing, and MMA. The gym is led by qualified and passionate instructors, including Coach Gus who personally engages with prospective members, and provides a clean facility with diverse training options. This variety allows individuals to explore different disciplines before committing to one, though some may note the breadth could mean less specialized focus compared to single-discipline academies.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members overwhelmingly praise the welcoming atmosphere, with multiple reviews mentioning how beginners feel instantly included and supported by friendly practitioners. Coach Gus receives specific commendation for being personable and inviting, while the coaching quality is described as top-notch in an ego-free environment focused on learning. The positive community extends beyond martial arts to activities like yoga with Carmen, which members find beneficial. One critical review mentions a contractual dispute about banking membership months during off-seasons, advising others to clarify terms carefully.

I am visiting the area for work and attended a drop in class. This school looks great online but overdelivers in person. I was met by such grace and hospitality. Instantly, I felt like part of the team. Each person at class was so friendly and helped walk me through each phase of the training session. 10/10 recommend! I will definitely be back to train when I’m in the area. Thank you SBG Missoula! 🙏🏼

From day 1 every person affiliated with SBG, both coaches and practitioners, have been nothing but welcoming and kind. I was extremely nervous as I’ve never done any real sport in my life let alone a combat sport, but I find myself looking forward to the next time I get to be on the mat. It’s fun, it’s a workout, and I get to interact with people who love what they do and love sharing what they do just as much. Jiu Jitsu aside, yoga with Carmen has been a BLESSING for my tight hips and has actually become the highlight of my week ! I’m thankful for SBG for giving me a purpose outside of work🥋

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SBG Missoula is an amazing Jiu-Jitsu academy with a truly welcoming community! I dropped in for a class as a one-stripe, white belt who’s been training about six months, and everyone made me feel right at home. Coach Gus answered the phone personally the day before and was incredibly friendly and inviting. The energy on the mats was positive, ego-free, and focused on learning — exactly what you want in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym. The coaching was top-notch, the facility was clean, and the people were genuine. If you’re looking for Jiu-Jitsu in Missoula, I can’t recommend SBG Missoula enough. Anytime I’m back in town, this will be my Jiu-Jitsu home! 🥋🔥

Who Might Want to Look Elsewhere: Martial arts enthusiasts who crave an in-depth focus on a specific discipline, like BJJ or Muay Thai. Budget-conscious individuals who might find other gyms with more affordable pricing. People who prefer a clear understanding of class formats (group vs. private, beginner vs. advanced) before signing up.

Im a firefighter so my summers are too busy to attend trainings, I talked to Gus and the staff before buying a year membership and they said I could bank the 6 months in the summer to use during my off season (pay for 1 year, train nov-April “bank” may-October then come back the next nov-April and use the months paid for but didn’t actually attend) well I did this then come the next off season after paying for half a year I didn’t use, they say I can only use the 6 months I banked if I sign up for another 1 year contract. Which is such a hungry money grab and so lame, because I make a living off fire so I can only train 6 months a year. Sbg will try and milk you for every dollar they can
