CGBJJ under Gary Grate is where I truly experienced and learned BJJ. I’ve trained 5 years under various Instructors before joining the CG family. My first day training with Gary really opened my eyes to another aspect of the game. (Yes, he kneed on bellied me and covered my mouth with his hand till I tapped !) Dropped in for a no gi class while I was visiting family in minden. Spoke with professor Gary grates over the phone he told me to drop in an have fun. Jay the coach and the other practitioners in the class could not have been more welcoming. Great class, jay spent time with me after class refining some techniques like I was a long time student there. I look forward to dropping by again next time im in town. Excellent gym, with excellent gym culture.

I really enjoyed meeting Jay and rolling with his class, his personality and BJJ knowledge kept up a great learning environment. If you’re ever in town or thinking about getting into a BJJ school with a great learning environment, nice people, and educated instructors, you should come here!

Gary is one of the BJJ pioneers to Northern Nevada. Him and Lowell Anderson pretty much created the strong presence we have here today. I own a conpetitive school in Carson City but highly recommend this place.

The Gary Grate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym is exceptional. The coaches are highly skilled and knowledgeable in the art of Jiu-Jitsu. They provide careful, professional instruction to both children and adults, incorporating fun into the lessons for the children. The environment is wonderful, and I take great pleasure in observing my son's progress under the guidance of these coaches. I appreciate the level of discipline and understanding they instill in their students. My son and I feel very comfortable at this gym, and my husband, who has been a student for four years, speaks volumes about our love and appreciation for the gym and its coaches. I highly recommend this gym, especially for those looking to help their child learn self-defense or for women interested in learning self-defense themselves. Additionally, they offer a women's self-defense class. 😊
