I wholeheartedly recommend this BJJ school to anyone who is interested in learning or continuing their training. I've been training jiu-jitsu for around 13 years and for the last 5 or so, I've had the enormous pleasure to study under Armando, Anthony, Joe, and Christian. The school focuses on fundamentals, and with an eye towards self-defense, but there's plenty of sporty techniques taught at the upper levels as well to keep one agile and tricksy during rolls. Crucially, the school maintains a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, accessible to anyone regardless of prior experience, fitness, or gender.

We’ve had such a great experience here! The staff is always friendly, and from day one they made us feel like part of the family. The instructor is amazing with the little ones and really takes the time to help them learn. I definitely recommend this Jiu Jitsu place to anyone looking for a positive and supportive environment.

Just started training here two months ago. Carlos Machado BJJ offers the best jiujitsu training in town. The training facility is very clean and friendly. Professor Armando, Anthony and Joe are excellent instructors.

Was in ABQ on travel and came to get in a workout while I was out of town. Got to get a good roll in practicing guillotines and finishing with arm bars in adult class! Instructors were super cool and welcoming!

We had a positive experience here overall, until a newer coach began working with my 7-year-old son, who has ADHD. I personally observed this coach wave his finger aggressively in my son’s face and issue strikes immediately for minor infractions — behavior I never saw directed at the other children. When other kids who have a fair complexion got physical with classmates, he would ignore it or address it calmly. My son, was consistently held to a harsher standard and spoken to with an angry tone. The pattern was not subtle, and as a parent watching from the sidelines, the disparity was difficult to explain away. I hope leadership looks more closely at how all children are being treated.
