The teaching philosophies of Japan Karate Association of NM is what brought us to this dojo. Our daughter has been a member for over five years and has learned discipline, awareness, confidence, and respect. The lessons and skills she has aquired from Sensei Nagatomo has carried over throughout her elementary years and now mid-school with positive results in academics and sports. Sensei Nagatomo strives to bring out the best in his students through his teaching methods and expertise in Shotokan. JKA of NM has become a part of our extended family.

Not your average dojo! I joined 6 years ago and from the moment I stepped onto the floor, I knew I had found my second family! Friendly, helpful people welcomed me into their karate community and strove to not only improve my fitness but also my outlook on life. I have found my self confidence in knowing I can now protect myself not only physically but that I can also emotionally deal with the daily stresses of life. I've made so many new friends and greatly strengthened the bond with my dad who does karate with me. We also love going to all the parties and social events that allow us time to get to know everyone outside of the dojo. Lastly I really appreciate learning from a true Japanese master whose teaching style has really impressed me!

My wife selected this dojo 6 months ago for our son to go because of its Japanese authenticity. Sensei's approach to teaching is rooted in tradition where honor, dignity, respect and discipline is paramount. Expectations and standards are set high but they are enforced in compassionate and caring way. It didn't take long to see Sensei is tough but loving at the same time because he wants his students to be fully successful with Karate and more importantly, life! If you want a dojo that makes not only the student, but the whole family better, look no further! JKA of NM is the place to be!!!

My boys have been with Sensei Nagatomo of JKA New Mexico for over 2 years now and my wife and I couldn't be more satisfied. They have grown, matured and developed self control with his influence and teaching methods. He is truly one of the best karate instructors in the world. This year in Ireland, 25% of the US team came from this dojo and we placed 2nd and 3rd in the world for both male and female juniors. We plan on staying with the dojo for many years to come.

Incredible venue to learn & study Karate. Sensei Nagatomo has a special gift for teaching all ages. I've seen it wit my own eyes with our son Kaden age five. My son has learned how to throw a ball, hit a baseball, shoot a basketball, jump rope, has learned proper running techniques, can count in Japanese, has learned the white belt kata, has learned to punch, block, and kick. Above everything else, my son has learned mental endurance and gained a tremendous amount of self confidence. Working with Sensei has made me a better parent all the way around.
