Smartjits

So long story short, our family recently moved to ABQ from Las Vegas. My son did jiu jitsu in Las Vegas, so we were trialing different gyms to find a good replacement for the gym we had in Vegas. This review is long overdue, but my son trialed this gym a few months back, and this jiu jitsu gym was the closest to feeling like the gym we left in Las Vegas. Everyone was very welcoming and professional! The owner/blackbelts, the other parents, and the other kids were super friendly. They taught really solid jiu jitsu techniques (I also grapple). We wanted to choose this gym, but unfortunately the distance from our residence to the gym was all the way across town. We realized once our son started school, there was no way to make it after school, beat rush hour traffic across town, and make it to class on time. Thank you Smartjits for the warm welcome!

Walking into Smartjits while on a work trip was a fantastic decision. I was immediately welcomed with open arms and the vibe was nothing short of incredible. The facility is immaculately clean, a detail that's always a huge plus. The class was exactly what I was looking for. The coaching is truly top-notch, providing clear, insightful instruction that elevated my game in just one session. But what really made the experience stand out were the training partners. They were not only incredibly skilled and challenging, but also super welcoming and helpful. I got some tough rounds in, which is exactly what I crave when I drop in somewhere. I have trained all over the world and in the past 16 years+, I can safely say this gym is world-class. The head instructor is a legend in the BJJ world and even has a move named after him that he invented. His attention to detail and caring about everyone's development is incomparable and the training rooms are always stacked with talent. What has kept me here for years however is the vibe and the community. Zero toxicity and everyone truly wants to help each other grow.

Love this place! It’s our second home. My husband has trained here for years and has gained not only skill, knowledge and experience, but a community of good friends. My children also train and love their professors and coaches. They’re really great with all age ranges and skill level. Extremely grateful for this gym.
