I've been training here for almost two years now, and Sensei Steve Vosa is a wonderful instructor. He really cares about everyone in class, and has so much experience and knowledge of Uechi-Ryu karate. I trained in different style of karate in the past, but have to admit that Uechi-ryu is the most effective when it comes to real self defense. And that's the most important for me as a woman. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone.

I have been interested in martial arts for years and had been looking around at different schools when I decided to give New Mexico Uechi Ryu a try. I've been studying this style for around a month and a half and love it. The instructor, Steve Vosa, is an excellent teacher with decades of experience in Uechi Ryu karate. He manages to find a way to teach students in the way that is most helpful for them and explains why you are being taught what you are. Safety and self-defense is always the focus, and practical application is always explained. Due to this, I leave each class with something useful and clear ideas on how to improve. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a traditional martial art with a legit teacher. The environment and the fellow students are always welcoming and helpful, and Sensei Vosa knows how to teach both the artistry and the self-defense that make up this traditional Okinawan style.

Looking back, joining Uechi ryu was the single best decision I made this year. Sensei Steve Vosa is a master of his craft. He is very patient and understanding of different skill levels, he takes the time to work with every student on individual corrections; and guides us kindly through our struggles. With over 50 years of experience he is an amazing teacher; wether it is a better technique or a life lesson, there is always something to learn from him. The atmosphere in the dojo is very respectful and professional, but also friendly and just a great place to train. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!
