United Kenpo Karate Academy
About
United Kenpo Karate Academy offers training in both mixed martial arts and traditional karate disciplines. The gym provides structured classes for all ages, including specialized programs like the Little Dragons class for younger children. Instructors focus on clear, easy-to-follow lessons that help students build skills progressively while emphasizing discipline and confidence. The facility welcomes families, with many parents noting that both children and adults can find suitable training programs within the same supportive environment.
reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise the gym's ability to build confidence and discipline in children, with many noting their kids eagerly anticipate classes and apply lessons at home. Parents specifically highlight Mr. Ibarra's engaging teaching style for younger students and appreciate the professional yet stern approach to discipline. The gym receives strong marks for creating a welcoming community atmosphere where both children and adults can train together. However, one critical review from a martial arts background raises concerns about instructional quality, excessive talking during classes, and belt advancement practices that some perceive as being purchased rather than earned.

Our son has been coming here for 6 months. He has enjoyed it very much. He has learned valuable lessons which he has applied at home. The instructors are friendly and provide easy to follow lessons. Thank you to, Mr Ibarra.

My son has been attending classes for about 7 months now and I cannot express how great it has been for him! He has grown more confident and looks forward to attending classes. My husband has also started doing the adult classes. It really is a great community of instructors and family's that we are so happy to be a part of and encourage other kiddos to jion.

My son has attended the little dragon class for about a year and loves it! They teach great Karate. Mr. Ibarra is very engaging for smaller kids. He also does a good job of teaching to where they retain information.

My 6 year old has been going here for 2 months and really enjoys it. At first he was frustrated that he didn't get to immediately fight with other kids (!), but I have been really impressed at his discipline and how it transforms to other areas of life. We have found the instructors to be kind, professional, and stern in terms of discipline which I love.

Coming from a family of martial artists and a martial artist myself of over 30 years please beware of this school. The instructors do more talking than teaching. It’s a waste of money to have your children or to take classes yourself. My nephew was there for many years only because it was a convenient location and we thought maybe the classes would get better with age and advanced belts but it remained the same. Poor quality instruction. And instead of earning your belt... it’s bought. Our last straw was my nephew being embarrassed and put down infront of the whole class by the demeaning words of the instructors.
