Love this place. Love my Sensei Anna Sweeney. I especially love how much of a home it feels like when you walk in. It's like Cheers but with Karate Gi. Although we are learning from our beloved Sensei everyone is adding to the experience creating a harmonic exchange of master and willing pupil. Furthermore, gleaning from the heritage of over a hundred year old fighting tradition while building stillness, self confidence, self mastery, and reveling in self revelation all while becoming gentle and dangerous is a euphoria one must taste to truly see. I believe in the effectiveness of the Shorin Ryu system as well as the diamonds and jade in the streams that begin to sh ow themselves as we become more consistent with practice. D on't wait . Don't delay. Just come on in. See you soon .

Excellent school. Superior system. Traditional approach. Great instructor. Crown Heights Ueshiro Karate is a traditional Okinawan Karate school, teaching the art the way it was meant to be taught. In this school, you learn the same thing you'd learn in a traditional school in Okinawa. You'll build character, develop leadership skills, strengthen your body & mind, learn to defend yourself - all while having fun and experiencing the joy and vigor of true martial arts. This is not just another McDojo. It's a traditional Okinawan Karate school that is true to the art as developed by the Masters of old and taught by a dedicated and caring instructor. You definitely want to stop in for a visit. Once you do, you'll be back!

I have been training at this dojo for about 10 months now and I cannot praise it highly enough. I had previously practiced Tae Kwon Do since I was a teenager but was brand new to Karate. I feel it is a great environment for all levels of experience and am so glad I chose to continue my martial arts journey here. I chose to “start from scratch” with a new martial art after my first lesson here because I knew I wanted to continue learning from Sensei Anna Sweeney. The Shorin Ryu system is both physically and mentally enriching. Sensei Sweeney is kind, knowledgeable and masterfully curates a productive learning environment for her students. I’ve trained in a variety of places over the years and this is the most comfortable I’ve felt in a training space as a queer woman. Best of all is the vibe of the dojo as a whole which Anna & Damoon artfully guide. There’s a friendliness amongst training partners that creates a really lovely community that I am very grateful to be a part of.
