I feel great after a night of intense combat training at Sambo Combat Center in Brooklyn. I have been enrolled in self defense classes in Judo and Sambo and I really like it. I have been there six months and plan on staying until I have become a master.

I was dreaming to be like some of my classmates at school – strong with muscular body. I tried numerous gyms, workout videos, and biking, but none compared to Combat Sambo Center located in Brooklyn, NY. After a short time my classmates started asking, where I am getting all of this energy and strong muscles? All I can say this Gym is the best and I am learning Judo, which is a lot of fun! Join me, guys and you will see what I mean!!!!!!!!!

My brother and I train together at Sambo Combat in Brooklyn. We came over from another school because the reputation of the trainers in Sambo and Judo was so good and we wanted to be trained by the best. Since joining Sambo Combat we have improved at a much faster rate than where we were. We are hoping to compete soon.

The philosophy of Sambo or Judo like other Martial arts is all about respect, and perseverance. The coaches at Combat Sambo Center try to use these core values and apply them to everyday life. They are taking their teachings out of the Dojo and into the world by showing my kids how to be kind to each other. This kind of teaching help kids deal with issues that come up as they grow older. It transcends against bullying, and helps with self defense. They truly care about my two boys. Come and join them at Combat Sambo Center in Brooklyn, New York!!!

Took my child out because of witnessing too many emotionally abusive verbal and at times physical behavior instances toward students from Judo instructor - Felix. Screaming, aggressive correction of technique or stance were routine methods of feedback and disapproval of behaviors that irritated him. At times he his mood was on a kinder side and at other times the instructor would turned on the kids. I know other parents notice see it but are either too timid to speak up or are accepting of such authoritarian treatment their child receives there. One said it fosters “character” in boys when I brought up my concerns. Complaints directly to the instructor are met with scorn and a “recommendation” to take the kid out if they don’t like something. Although I’ve never witnessed my son being subjected to this directly but when I spoke to my som about it, he said he felt uncomfortable and afraid that it would happens to him. This is unacceptable to me and subjects children to the worst model of behavior by their adult role models. I don’t want my son growing up thinking it’s ok to scream, belittle and shame others as a means of affecting the others and have a fear based world view. Of course intimidating and belittling the child in front of other students has an affect and stops undesired behavior (such as not paying attention or play) in that child and intimidates other kids so they are discouraged from undesirable behaviors out of fear of reprisal by the coach in front of the other kids. It’s possible that this is an acceptable model of pedagogy in Felix’s culture and his generational cohort, but such aggressive and punishing approach had been proven as detrimental for children’s development in the long run and leads to low self esteem and bullying. I will have to look elsewhere I took my child out of there as soon as itemized that exposure to Felix was way too toxic for all involved.
