I just wanted to take the time to give Paxibellum a massive shoutout. I’ve trained at a number of gyms in NYC and across the country, and Paxibellum easily ranks up there as one of the best gyms I’ve had the pleasure of training at. Training here genuinely left me in such awe & I wanted to share that experience with others. Chad is an exceptional instructor who is very concise, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. He connects techniques together with purpose, teaches the “why” behind the movement, and the greatest testament to his ability as a coach is how he’s able to break down complex concepts/movements in a way that makes them accessible to everyone in the room. As class progresses, he gradually adds layers and nuance, helping students build true skill and understanding. A single class carries so much depth but is taught in a way & at a pace that is digestible and has plenty of carryover. His approach blends movement science with elite instruction in a way that’s hard to find. For a sport as complicated as jiu jitsu, that kind of teaching is worth its weight in gold. This is truly a gym for all levels, and I highly recommend anyone stop by and train here.

One of the best Jiu Jitsu schools in NYC. I have grown tremendously in this space provided by Chad. He is an excellent teacher and his focus on safety is something I wish more teachers did. The place is clean, classes always start on time, he caters to every level and the vibe is chill but professional. Great dojo!

I don’t typically leave reviews often, but Chad and his team at Paxibellum far exceeded my expectations! The gym was very well-kept, organized, and had such an incredible ambience overall! Chad teaches the motor skills needed for martial arts from the ground up; I.e. he teaches the basics of hand fighting in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and he teaches additional skills that can be used with higher-ranked belts, along with every single step that is repetitive so even lower belts can comprehend the movement! Chad also happens to have at least an adept understanding in other martial arts as well! He is very capable of building the components you need to be more than a fundamentally sound fighter which can directly translate it being an elite one! You can’t become an elite athlete in any sport without a strong knowledge in the fundamentals! Chad also happened to compete in tournaments for BJJ, as well as MMA and having very positive outcomes in both. This gym is also actively growing, so there will be an indefinite amount of options for you getting better as a martial artist, along with the accessibility of being in NYC! I have nothing bad nor critical to say!

I’m Ivan’s wife, and I just wanted to share how happy I was to see my husband living his dream of training Jiu-Jitsu in New York — and on our very last day here. Professor Chad was incredibly kind and welcoming, from the warm reception to the thoughtful gift at the end. It truly made the moment even more special. So grateful!

I love training at this hidden gem of a gym, where the jiu jitsu is functional, the students are scrappy and the vibe is chill. Chad’s jiu jitsu is excellent and he teaches his classes in a supremely approachable manner. It won’t matter if this is your first class, or 500th, you will learn attacks and escapes that will work equally well against the higher belts and noobs. So if you want to learn how to fight, and have fun doing it, this is the place for you. Plus the morning classes are great if your evenings are full.
