This Dojo gives you the feeling of being part of a family. I have had my son coming here for about a month and you can already see a drastic improvement in his concentration and discipline. Sensei Bernard and Eddie are great to work with small children and teach them great techniques.

Our family has been attending Kai Leung for decades! We highly recommend this dojo for your children or even adults. I attended from age 4-18. Now our sons, niece and nephews also practice here since age 4- teaching them respect, self defense, and confidence early on. We even have opportunities to compete in tournaments. This dojo is family!

Hands down best traditional karate school in NYC. From a rich history with direct lineage to the founder to recent world champions, this is the place to be if you want to learn about martial arts. Statement from a senior student: “I have been practicing karate since November 1982. I have been a member of the Shotojuku Dojo family since I began. I have had experiences/ exposure to different styles and different teachers/senseis either via seminar, experimental trials, demonstrations and extensive research; never once straying from Sensei Kai Leung or the Shotojuku Dojo. Why? Simple answer. Quality. Not once did I find better teaching, training methodology, attitude, respect and without a doubt knowledge of martial arts which were and still are present at this Dojo. Sensei Leung is a lifetime learner having studied for more than 60 years and teaching since the mid 1970s and holds high ranking black belts in multiple disciplines. If you are a serious student you will experience a great learning environment regardless of your reason for practicing karate. The Shotojuku Honbu Dojo is like a home away from home for many of us. Serious students and champions from around the world come and train here seeking the knowledge of Sensei Leung and the very positive family energy that is ever present there. Sensei Leung is also a very respected International judge and is sought out by many tournament organizers. For Sensei Leung karate is a love before a business. If you are thinking of selecting a martial art and/or a dojo, consider Shotojuku. Watch a class, speak with students there, if a parent speak with the parents there AND speak with Sensei Leung.”
