About

Sei Shin Dojo offers training in multiple martial arts disciplines including MMA, judo, and karate, with a primary focus on Goshin Jiu Jitsu and Pekiti Tirsia Kali. The school is led by Head Instructor Glenn Genovas, a Sandan in Goshin Jiu Jitsu and Punong Guro in Pekiti Tirsia Kali, supported by a team of experienced black belt instructors. Classes emphasize practical self defense techniques, including knife and baton fighting, while maintaining traditional Asian martial arts values. The curriculum is designed to be accessible to beginners while offering depth for continued development.

reviewsWhat Members Say

Members consistently praise Sensei Glenn Genovas as an excellent martial artist and superb teacher with strong moral character and 35 years of experience. They highlight the practical, no nonsense approach to self defense training, particularly appreciating the knife and baton fighting instruction that even military programs no longer teach. Reviewers describe a welcoming community atmosphere with respectful instructors who take extra time for individual growth, reasonable pricing compared to other gyms, and classes that emphasize both martial arts skills and personal development. The only minor note comes from one reviewer who suggests the dojo is particularly good for beginners with no martial arts background.

I took my two sons, for their first free class. Sensei Glenn is amazing and not only trains them in the art of Jiu Jitsu, but also in accountability and their responsibility with respect to NY Laws. All instructors are knowledgeable and the prices are VERY affordable! Definitely recommend you at least take a free class!

Sei Shin Dojo is one of the finest. Sensei Glenn is an excellent martial artist and superb teacher. With over 35 years of martial arts experience, he continues to train and to develop his skills, and passes down his knowledge to students. What this school has is HEART... it is throughout the instructors and the students... focus, respect, care, support, humor, and fun all live here. Anyone, at any age, can train and enjoy their journey toward their goals-- whether seeking effective self defense or simply an enriching physical activity of Asian tradition, one can find it here. There is so much positive energy here!

Sei Shin Dojo is a small but vital martial arts school, run by Sensei Glenn Genovas. He is a vastly experienced martial artist with advanced qualifications in American Jiu Jitsu, Filipino stick and knife fighting and many related arts. I have had the privilege of attending classes and working with Sensei Glenn for many years. That experience has not just given me some martial arts skills, it has opened my awareness and helped me to become a better person.

Sei Shin Dojo has been a great experience for me. American Jiu Jitsu is a practical martial art and it is one taught with patience and in a respectful way by Sensei Glenn and the other instructors. Classes start on time, the atmosphere is one of respect for instructors and fellow classmates, and you feel like you are part of a great culture no matter how frequently or infrequently you are able to make it. There are a number of classes throughout the week, including virtual ones, and instructors are always willing to take the extra time to help your individual growth.

This is a great dojo for you if you have no martial arts background at all and don't know how to fight, but want to learn practical self defense as quickly as possible. Absolutely no "Bullshido" to be found when i trained at Sei Shin. And yes, they do teach traditional Asian martial arts if that's what you're looking for. They dive straight into the basics of knife fighting and baton fighting for self defense. (The military doesn't even teach that anymore!) The student community in this dojo seem to be nice people. Sensei Glenn seems to be a very kind and professional man, with a very strong morale compass. Good qualities in a teacher! I would definitely take classes at Sei Shin Dojo again in the future. **Oh! I also forgot the prices! This man isn't interested in ripping you off. His primary trade is physical therapy, and the rates he charges to teach martial arts (through the lens of practical self defense), are very reasonable! I've trained at MANY MMA Gyms and BJJ Academies, and many of them are just over priced and pretentious! They'll rob you of your hard earned money, and teach you absolutely nothing new! Glenn doesn't do any of that. Just go to him.
