Sensei Steve’s Judo class is a great addition to SubForce. He teaches traditional Judo, which means you learn moves like leg grabs that are banned in competitions like the Olympics. This makes the program feel more complete and gives you a better understanding of Judo as a whole. The class starts with basics like falling safely, grip fighting, and footwork, but it’s not just for beginners. Sensei Steve works with everyone, no matter your skill level, and explains techniques in a way that’s easy to understand. He also shares a lot of history behind the moves, which makes the class more engaging. If you’re doing BJJ at SubForce, Judo is the perfect complement. The throws and stand-up work flow right into the groundwork you learn in BJJ, so it all connects. If you’ve ever wanted to try Judo or add to your training, this class is definitely worth it.

Originally, I came to Subforce looking to find a new hobby to do in the evening and learn something new like Muay Thai. But later, judo opened up for the first time at Subforce and it was something that I definitely peaked my interest. I already knew some ground work and came to the school with some BJJ experience, but never had any experience with stand up fighting like throwing and sweeping, so I felt that this would be a great opportunity for me to learn that. After almost a year of learning judo by Sensei Steven, I can honestly say that it was so worth it. Sensei Steven is an amazing instructor and I learned so much from him. He goes over the fundamentals on falling, rolling, throwing, sweeping and goes through each class with patience and attentiveness. I just had my first judo tournament this past weekend and took first place in my weight class. Had it not been for the teachings and guidance of Sensei Steven, I don't know if I would've done as well as I did. Nevertheless, this is a great judo club and we welcome new people to come and learn from Sensei Steven. It's never too late to join the club as our Sensei takes his time with us and likes to revert back to the fundamentals every so often to review and master techniques that we learned in the past.
