I have known Soke Ferrell since the early 1990’s. He is always honest, patient, and kind. He is willing to take time to explain techniques and the purpose behind them. His approachable and calm demeanor makes any interaction with him instructive and beneficial. In my opinion he is the best martial arts instructor in our area as well as a truly great guy and trusted friend.

Highly recommend this dojo and Ray Ferrell's training. He is a five-star instructor and owner of this well respected and oldest dojo in Charlotte. I had the privilege to participate in a number of classes including Tai chi and a self-defense workshop which I attended with my teenage daughters. We all left feeling empowered. I have the highest regard for Ray Ferrell.

For anyone interested in self-defense and martial arts, I highly recommend this school! Soke Ferrell and the other teachers are extremely knowledgeable and very patient and kind. They create a wonderful environment for learning and growing! Never having done any martial arts training, I started at age 40 after starting my son at this school. You’re never too old to start! It’s also a great way to get in shape and stay active!

I have the pleasure of being Ray’s wife and have experienced an amazing awareness of Ray’s true skills, dedication and growth, not only in his history of learning since age of 18, but sharing the legacy of many world wide teachers with students in USA and abroad! He is highly respected in the US but also in many countries where he teaches (Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, etc.). His skills and love for martial arts and self defense is like no other! His conceal carry handgun class is truly unique and will hold your attention 100% and increase your hands on skills day 1! In today’s world, your self protection and for your family is key, Academy of Kempo karate and all instructors are 100% legit in the game! Your life will forever be changed with training at Academy of Kempo Karate in Charlotte and abroad! I am so proud of Ray Ferrell and his family at the dojo and beyond!

Ray Ferrell is an excellent teacher, Tai Chi instructor and concealed handgun instructor. It is rare these days to get a master so committed to teaching and training in a way that is understood and accessible. The learning curve is attainable and progress forward is evident. More than highly recommended.
