Gracie Barra Columbus - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense

I have known Professor Amadeu and his wife, Marcela, since 2017. When I started jiu jitsu I was nervous and unsure of what to expect. I was skeptical about starting my martial arts journey in a male-dominated field. Professor Amadeu and the entire Gracie Barra team made me feel welcome and safe. This is the most critical aspect of training, especially for women. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and an expert at his craft. Professor Amadeu's approach is patient and kind. I also appreciate that he actively supports his students in helping them work toward and achieve their individual goals. For example, those of us who like to compete, he will push us and coach us in a more competitive direction. For students interested in the fitness and recreational components, he gears training toward those goals. I believe this is also invaluable. If you can train at Gracie Barra Columbus, take it!!

I’ve been coming to Gracie Barra for the last 10 months. It was evident (after spending 2 years at another school) that I knew very little about the art of Jiu Jitsu. What I noticed from my very first class was, all of the students that started their journey with BJJ from the opening of this school were much more skilled than I was. I came in as a four stripe white belt thinking I was pretty good. Got humbled, met my instructors and teammates, and I never looked back. My game has never been better. They will work you in ways you didn’t expect, but it’s all for a reason. Amadeu and Caúe are wonderful professors that will push you to your limits and be your biggest supporters along the way. They promoted me to blue belt at the appropriate time, and continue to promote all the students within the school as they progress. If you’re new, or a veteran in BJJ, you will learn so much from the high decorated instructors at this school. I can’t say how much this school means to me. It brought me a new perspective on the sport, and it brought me a teammates and friends I’ll always have. Chama!

Professor Amadeu is not only an outstanding instructor, but also an amazing friend. His technical expertise and genuine dedication to his students set a high standard for excellence. His professionalism, patience, and passion for Jiu-Jitsu create a positive and motivating atmosphere both on and off the mats. I highly recommend his academy to anyone seeking world-class instruction and a strong, supportive community.

I've been attending Gracie Barra Columbus for a month with my three kids, and it has been such an incredible experience. All three professors are truly knowledgeable and passionate, always willing to support and guide us through our progress. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, making everyone feel at home regardless of skill level. The kids classes are wonderful and help develop confidence in the kids starting from age 4-5. They have so many classes to choose from that it should work with anyone’s schedule. They are even offering more classes starting July 2025. I highly recommend this gym for anyone looking to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Fantastic for everyone from beginner to expert! Professor Amadeu and his team provide a welcoming, disciplined and safe environment to learn & share in the art of Jiu Jitsu. My 5yo son loves his classes and new friends. I love that the junior level classes are fun for the kiddos but also instill respect and honor. I started as well, and the experience is very rewarding! Adult group classes in addition to “private sessions” have both been fantastic! Highly recommend Gracie Barra Columbus for anyone who has an interest in Jiu Jitsu or simply in bettering themselves.
