I can’t say enough about OAJJ. The culture here is next to none, the attention to detail coach Derek Myers offers is the standard. From day one everyone has been welcoming and helpful in learning technique. Derek’s level of knowledge goes beyond years of practicing Jiu Jitsu as he’s also a Dr. and Chiropractor and understands the bio mechanics of the human body. Whether you’re looking to pick up skills for self defense, ambitious to compete, or just want to meet some great people and burn some extra calories this is the gym to be apart of in Licking County.

Great place. My 6 and 7 year olds like the coaches and the atmosphere. I have tried several jujitsu gyms before settling here and I drive an hour 1 way because I found it to be the best one for us. My son started competing (optional) with the gym after never doing it before and started loving it and meddling. Would recommend to all parents looking to expand their kids self defense, fitness, and confidence.

We have been coming to this gym for over a year. Bryn and Derek Meyers are wonderful coaches for both adults and children. Not to mention all the awesome coaches who help with the large kids classes. Our 3 children have grown in confidence thanks to Ohio Academy of Jiujitsu! I especially love the women’s only classes. The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable! We will be coming to this gym for many years to come and I recommend it to all of my family & friends!

My daughter has been attending OAJJ for over a year. She started as a beginner with absolutely no experience. She enjoys coming to class and the interactions she has with teammates and coaches. She is excited to go to class. My daughter started at 4.5 years old and has learned so many skills and her confidence has grown. OAJJ is a fun place for her to run off energy and learn amazing skills yet it is structured. I have had many friends start at OAJJ and have been happy with their experience as well. Totally recommend no matter the skill level. This is why OAJJ does what do. To teach kids new skills and build their confidence.

Ohio Academy of Jiu Jitsu is more than just a place to train — it’s a community. Under the leadership of Professor Derek and Byrn, jiu jitsu here is taught as a tool for building real confidence, resilience, discipline, and leadership. Those lessons carry far beyond the mats and into everyday life. What really sets this academy apart is the culture. Giving back, supporting the community, and helping people grow both physically and mentally is clearly at the core of what this team stands for. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, you’re pushed to be better while being supported every step of the way. If you’re looking for high-level instruction, strong values, and a team that actually cares about your growth, this is the place.
