If you’re looking for a real, competitive gym to legitimately learn martial arts alive mma is the place to go. I’ve had a membership for a couple years now and I’ve always felt welcomed. The atmosphere is exactly what you should want out of a mma gym. Would recommend.

I started my daughter in the children’s jiujitsu class when she was 6 and now at 8 I’m am so thankful for her learning and development that has come directly from the experience of being taught and mentored by Coach Bill. Not only does she learn an amazing self defense skill but also how to maintain her composure patience and perseverance. I cannot recommend having you child in these classes enough! They are 5 days a week from 4-6 in which you can choose how much are how little they go. This is hands down the best investment in my child’s growth as a young lady. I began my own jiujitsu journey 2 years ago and love learning from Coach Eli and Coach Bill. It is the hardest workout both mentally and physically. Imagine practicing mindfulness while you and your partner are trying to submit each other, what’s not to love. Again I cannot recommend this enough, not only for your child’s personal development but as well as your own.

I've spent a couple years at this gym. It is exceptional for both adults and children, both beginner and advanced. Nick in Muay Tai is an awesome, patient instructor. Steph and Hilary are awesome, patient crossfit instructors. I haven't spent too much time in Jiu Jitsu, but Bill the owner is clearly an exceptional teacher as well. I don't believe you could possibly find, or even imagine up a better gym with these services in the Portland area. The reason I took a star off is that the school has overcharged me a month's dues on maybe half a dozen occasions. In all cases the problem was promptly corrected when I brought it to the gym's attention. However after assurances it would not happen again, it always has. It's tiresome, but I've also found billing to be a common issue at local gyms in, at least SE Portland. Sometimes the admin is an obstacle to get to the services. Over time I have simply relegated a checking account just for this gym, and added funds when it was billing time again. Anyway once again I do recommend this gym, and agree with the other positive reviews. If you are looking for a safe, friendly, competent environment to learn combatives or cross fit, then you should definitely stop by. I recommend calling ahead, to make sure someone is available to tour you.

The environment of classes is a bit odd, bill has a short temper and is not very patient with students. Everyone feels a bit on edge around him and overall classes just feel weird and not very welcoming? It’s hard to describe but it’s not a pleasant or relaxing place to learn bjj if that’s what you’re looking for. I’ve tried out many other gyms that feel more relaxed, comfortable and open. The other instructors for the most part are really nice. I have also however had instructors go too far on submissions and be a bit too careless with how much force they applied, before giving an opportunity to tap. Never experienced that at another gym, and seemed to me someone is gonna get hurt. But many of the other instructors and higher up guys are great and when I’m doing classes with them none of the above applies, I’d say it’s mostly bill who’s a bit intense
